Summary: This study compared the efficacy of single-balloon-assisted colonoscopy (SBC) and cap-assisted colonoscopy (CAC) in patients with previous incomplete conventional colonoscopy. The results showed that SBC had a significantly higher cecal intubation rate compared to CAC, with no significant difference in other outcomes. SBC induced less discomfort and required a comparable amount of sedatives compared to CAC.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of remimazolam besylate combined with esketamine for outpatient colonoscopy. The results showed that remimazolam besylate combined with esketamine achieved similar efficacy to propofol, with reduced injection pain and more stable hemodynamics. However, it prolonged induction and awakening time.

Summary: This study compared the mean number of adenomas in patients undergoing Endo-wing-assisted colonoscopy (EAC) and transparent hood-assisted colonoscopy (TAC). The results showed that the mean number of adenomas per patient was significantly higher in the EAC group, particularly in the sigmoid colon. However, there was no significant difference in the adenoma detection rates between the two groups.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether WingCap-assisted colonoscopy can improve the adenoma detection rate (ADR) and adenoma per colonoscopy (APC) while shortening cecal intubation time. A total of 537 patients participated in the study, and the results showed that the WingCap group had a significantly higher ADR and APC compared to the control group, especially for nonpedunculated and diminutive adenomas. The effectiveness of WingCap was more pronounced for beginner endoscopists compared to experienced endoscopists.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of a one-day individualized training program on the diagnostic sensitivity of experienced radiologists in detecting 6-mm or larger lesions in CT colonography (CTC) scans, as well as the durability of the improvement and any associated factors. The results showed that the training intervention led to a significant improvement in sensitivity, and this improvement was maintained at 6 and 12 months after the intervention.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of changing clinical characteristics and the presence of diabetes mellitus on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk scores. The study found that the prevalence of diabetes in patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with entecavir/tenofovir increased over time. The performance of various HCC risk scores was comparable across different time periods. The scores had lower accuracy in diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic patients. The REAL-B score performed well in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients and can be considered the preferred score.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver disease that is increasing worldwide, and it is associated with colorectal polyps. This study aimed to investigate the potential of serum microRNAs (miRNAs) in identifying NAFLD in colorectal polyp patients. The results showed that a serum miRNA panel composed of four miRNA pairs significantly identified NAFLD in colorectal polyp patients, and its performance improved when patients with other concurrent metabolic disorders were removed from the analysis. The serum miRNA panel could be a potential diagnostic biomarker for screening NAFLD in colorectal polyp patients for early diagnosis and prevention of disease progression.

Summary: The widespread adoption of computer-aided detection (CADe) in detecting colorectal polyps would result in shorter surveillance intervals for patients, particularly according to the US Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer (USMSTF) guideline. Based on simulation, CADe application would lead to approximately 19.1% and 1.9% of patients requiring shorter surveillance intervals, as recommended by the USMSTF and European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) guidelines, respectively. Specifically, all or 2.7% of patients initially scheduled for 3-5 years of surveillance would have their intervals shortened to 3 years, according to the USMSTF guideline.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether automated fibrosis score calculation and electronic reminder messages could increase the detection of advanced liver disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that in the intervention group using automated fibrosis score calculation and electronic reminders, 33.3% of patients received appropriate care, compared to only 3.1% in the control group.

Summary: A folic acid-conjugated gold nanoparticle has been developed for the treatment of tubulointerstitial fibrosis in chronic kidney disease. This nanoparticle can selectively transport into renal tubules and treat fibrosis more effectively than standard therapy. The size of the nanoparticle and the disease stage determine its delivery to the fibrotic kidney.

Summary: This updated meta-analysis reveals that up to 26% of individuals in Asia have preneoplastic gastric lesions. There has been a significant decline in the prevalence of IM over the past 50 years in Asia, while the prevalence of CAG has remained stable. The rates of CAG and IM vary significantly among different regions, and Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with CAG and IM.
