Summary: This study empirically defined dietary patterns in rural and metropolitan populations in Australia using the Dietary Inflammation Score (DIS), and investigated associations with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. The results showed differences in dietary patterns between rural and metropolitan areas, suggesting a need for tailored dietary interventions in rural areas in Australia.

Summary: This study explored stigma patterns and coping mechanisms among MSMW living with HIV in Haiti, providing information on this research area. The findings revealed that MSMW struggled with their sexuality since adolescence, facing stigma from family, community, and cultural conflicts. Participants reported experiencing anxiety, psychological distress, and depression. Coping mechanisms included self-acceptance and social support. Culturally-tailored multilevel initiatives are recommended to improve HIV treatment adherence and retention among MSMW.

Summary: The impact of dietary patterns on pregnancy outcomes in individuals using assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) is currently unknown. This review synthesized published research and found that certain dietary patterns were associated with increased likelihood of clinical pregnancy and live birth. However, the included studies had a moderate-high risk of bias, highlighting the need for higher-quality research in this field.

Summary: The prevalence of HIV-1 is high in Guangxi, with CRF07_BC and CRF01_AE being the predominant subtypes. The study found that 75.3% of individuals were in three transmission clusters, and 73.8% were high-risk spreaders. Factors such as infection time, marital status, and subtype were significantly associated with HIV-1 transmission.

Summary: This study assessed factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis and severe outcomes among people living with HIV. The findings showed that age, immigrant status, sexual orientation, chronic comorbidities, and other factors were associated with SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis and severe outcomes. Participants with detectable HIV viraemia, chronic comorbidities, and certain subpopulations were at increased risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19, highlighting the importance of prioritizing these groups in clinical management and vaccination programs.

Summary: Ensuring equitable access to abortion is crucial for reproductive healthcare. However, the abortion bans in the United States disproportionately affect women living with HIV, especially Black women, contradicting the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in eliminating perinatal HIV transmission.

Summary: The study identified an unhealthy dietary pattern among ethnic minority groups in Southwest China, where the modern dietary pattern was positively associated with bonding social capital and negatively associated with bridging social capital. The influences of people's social connections on dietary behaviors should be considered in designing and implementing nutrition intervention programs for the population.

Summary: Sexual issues are often overlooked in HIV management despite being more prevalent in HIV-infected individuals. A multidisciplinary approach is required to address sexual problems, considering both HIV-related and non-related factors in the diagnostic and therapeutic process. Caring for sexual health is crucial in improving the quality of life for HIV patients.

Summary: The study explored the associations between perceived health and nutrition concerns, sociodemographic characteristics, and unhealthy dietary patterns in Polish adults. It found that higher health concerns decreased the chances of adhering to certain unhealthy dietary patterns, and that women and older individuals were less likely to consume unhealthy foods. These relationships should be considered in developing interventions for health-related lifestyle changes.

Summary: Non-AIDS-associated chronic diseases in HIV+ patients, such as cardiovascular diseases and gastrointestinal disruption, can significantly impact their quality of life. This study investigated the effects of sodium propionate (SP) supplementation on metabolic parameters and immune responses in PLHIV. The results showed that SP supplementation improved lipid profiles, glucose levels, and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, it led to changes in the gut microbiome and improvement in self-reported life-quality assessment.

Summary: Depression is a common mental disorder worldwide, and treatment resistance is often observed. Ketamine, an antidepressant, is frequently used for treatment-resistant depression. Research suggests that a healthy diet can lower the risk of developing depression and support conventional treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the dietary habits of patients with treatment-resistant depression and analyze the impact of ketamine on their food intake. The results revealed disrupted eating habits in patients with treatment-resistant depression, and after ketamine administration, there was a significant reduction in the consumption of various nutrients compared to the control group.

Summary: The complexity of critical limb ischemia (CLI) requires a dedicated multidisciplinary team for treatment. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of referring CLI patients scheduled for major amputation elsewhere to a dedicated CLI center. The analysis showed that patients in severe stages of CLI who received a second opinion from a dedicated multidisciplinary team had high limb salvage and survival rates after major amputation.

Summary: Our network meta-analysis identified the most effective antiarrhythmics for pharmacologic cardioversion over different time settings, with intravenous vernakalant and flecainide showing the highest conversion rate within 4 hours. Flecainide, especially when compared to propafenone, demonstrated superiority for conversion rates within 12 hours, while amiodarone exhibited efficacy within 24 hours, particularly if ranolazine was added.

Summary: This article examines tippy network markets that allow price discrimination and finds that under certain conditions, network competition may lead to a unique subgame-perfect equilibrium where the winner's identity is fully determined by its product features. The concept of the dominant value margin is introduced as a metric for the effectiveness of divide-and-conquer strategies. However, the outcome of a market where suppliers with larger dominant value margins can sell to all customers does not necessarily result in social efficiency.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a time to isolation (TTI)-based strategy of cryoballoon ablation (CBA) in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. The results suggest that an individualized CBA dosing strategy based on TTI and extended duration of CBA can reduce recurrence post-AF ablation and decrease procedure time and incidence of phrenic nerve palsy.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of a three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping (3D-EAM)-based strategy targeting slow pathway (SP) elimination with the conventional fluoroscopic approach in atrioventricular node reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) ablation. The results showed that 3D-EAM improved procedural parameters, reduced fluoroscopy time and dose, and increased SP elimination frequency. Follow-up results demonstrated lower recurrence rates and redo procedure rates in the 3D-EAM-based group.

Summary: Nowadays, cryoballoon (CB) has become an established alternative to radio frequency (RF) ablation for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), with the ability to isolate PVs in a single application. In a study on over 1000 consecutive patients, our center optimized the CB PVI procedure. It is expected that future guidelines will recommend CB as the first-line PVI for patients with paroxysmal AF and a class I indication. In a long-term follow-up of the EARLY-AF trial, CB showed a lower incidence of persistent atrial fibrillation compared to anti-arrhythmic drugs.

Summary: Oxidative stress is implicated in the development of many ethanol-induced pathologies, contributing to endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension. Ethanol consumption may alter vascular cell function and microvascular function, increasing the risk for hypertension. Data from human investigations have shown an association between alcohol consumption, changes in blood pressure, and hypertension risk.
