Summary: This study found that consumption of 15g of ground raw golden flaxseed can reduce the 2-hour postprandial glycemic response in men with T2DM. Although flaxseed does not affect peak glucose time, palatability, and taste parameters, it effectively lowers the rise in peak glucose levels and the AUC glycemic response within two hours.

Summary: This study found that older women, women with a family history of diabetes, Black and non-Hispanic White women, and women living in Europe and South-East Asia are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes after gestational diabetes. Healthcare providers may need to focus on these high-risk groups for preventive measures.

Summary: Grifola frondosa, also known as hen-of-the-woods or maitake, is an edible mushroom with bioactive constituents like polysaccharides, proteins, and small organic molecules, showing antitumor, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant activities. Research suggests that this mushroom may have potential value for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications, but further investigation is needed to understand its structure-bioactivity relationship and mechanisms of action.

Summary: This review provides a new and updated overview of the extraction methods, structural diversity, and biological activities of Grifola frondosa polysaccharides (GFPs) and their derivatives. However, the active mechanism of GFPs is still unclear, and other potential effects of GFPs need to be further explored.

Summary: In this study, the gastrointestinal metabolism characteristics and mechanism of Grifola frondosa polysaccharide (GFP) were investigated. The results showed significant distribution of the polysaccharide in the liver and kidneys, and degradation in the stomach and small intestine, followed by excretion through urine. These findings contribute to a better understanding and utilization of the pharmacological activities of GFP.

Summary: A study found that there is variation in blood glucose measurements across different laboratories, which may affect the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Despite the small inter-laboratory bias in glucose measurements, the impact on GDM prevalence is considerable and may inappropriately affect clinical practice.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of GF55 extracted from low-concentration ethanol on regulating glucose and lipid metabolism disorders. Results showed that GF55 intervention led to changes in lipid levels, liver enzymes, antioxidant enzymes, liver histopathology, and key gene expressions, along with alterations in intestinal microbiota composition. Additionally, GF55 treatment up-regulated expressions of certain metabolic enzymes while down-regulated others, suggesting a beneficial effect on GLMDs.

Summary: This review summarizes the production, properties, and bioactivities of Grifola frondosa polysaccharides (GFPs) reported in recent years. The biosynthetic pathway of GFPs was speculated, providing ideas for tailoring the structure through gene editing. The possible action or mechanisms of bioactivities are summarized and new perspectives for future studies on GFPs in health foods and pharmaceuticals are proposed.

Summary: The study found that high fat and protein meals result in higher late postprandial glucose but lower time in hypoglycemia. Alcohol consumption leads to increased lactate, decreased pH and growth hormone, and maintains free fatty acids suppressed during the late postprandial phase with no significant changes in plasma glucose.

Summary: The study analyzed 3108 metformin-treated adults with type 2 diabetes and found that the shape of the glucose response curve is associated with sex, race, age, and BMI. A continuously rising glucose curve may indicate reduced beta-cell function and predict increased glycemic instability.

Summary: Using commercial API-ZYM screening kits, highly active alpha-glucosidase, beta-glucosidase, and beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase were found in Grifola frondosa, with beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase being purified and characterized. The enzyme, named NAG38, had optimal activity at pH 7.0 and 50 degrees C, and was inhibited by several metal ions.

Summary: People with type 1 diabetes face challenges in managing blood glucose during exercise. This review examines the effects of postprandial exercise (exercise within 2 hours after a meal) on blood glucose in people with type 1 diabetes. The study found that all types of exercise caused acute decreases in blood glucose, with high-intensity continuous exercise having the largest effect and high-intensity interval training having the smallest effect. Pre-exercise mealtime insulin reduction can help protect against hypoglycemia, and a post-exercise meal with insulin adjustments may reduce the risk of nocturnal hypoglycemia.
