Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Spain, mainly due to the lack of control of cardiovascular risk factors. The prevalence of these risk factors varies across different autonomous regions in Spain, with high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, overweight, and obesity being the most common.

Summary: Micro-computed tomography (CT) is an effective non-invasive alternative for evaluating human fetal cardiac anatomy, especially in cases of early termination of pregnancy. It shows high diagnostic accuracy and allows for multiple off-time evaluations, making it a valuable tool for educational and research purposes in the fields of biology and bioengineering.

Summary: Feeding and swallowing difficulties are common comorbidities in infants and children with congenital heart disease, adversely affecting their health and quality of life. This scoping review provides an integrated summary of published literature on the prevalence of these difficulties in the last 25 years, revealing a wide range of prevalence rates. The review confirms the need to assess and manage feeding and swallowing difficulties as part of standard care.

Summary: Cryoablation for supraventricular arrhythmias in ACHD patients is a safe and effective procedure with a low risk of recurrence, and surgical treatment should be considered when further open-heart repair is needed.

Summary: The study found that, except for CO and SO2, the association between air pollutants and congenital heart disease was not significant. In subtype analysis, a positive association between air pollutants and ventricular septal defect (VSD) was identified, while a negative association with atrial septal defect (ASD) was observed. The source of heterogeneity in the study mainly came from study area and exposure time.

Summary: Studies on the epidemiology of heart failure in the general population provide valuable information for disease burden assessments, research, public health policies, and healthcare delivery. This systematic review analyzed population-based studies published between 1990 and 2020 to determine the prevalence, incidence, and survival rates of heart failure. The results showed substantial variations in heart failure prevalence, incidence, and survival across different countries and studies. The study concluded that heart failure remains a prevalent disease among older adults with a high risk of death within one year.

Summary: Evidence suggests a strong link between maternal obesity and poorer cardiovascular health in offspring throughout life, from infancy into adulthood. While underlying mechanisms remain unclear, targeted maternal obesity prevention measures are supported to promote cardiovascular health in offspring.

Summary: The systematic literature review found that in 9 studies, 3 showed significantly higher caries prevalence in children with congenital heart disease compared to healthy children; there was variation in the quality of the studies, but it is believed that children with CHD are more prone to caries than healthy children; limited information on predisposing factors requires further research.

Summary: With the increasing number of adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD), the rate of ACHD heart transplantations (ACHD HTx) is also rising. This study examines the ACHD HTx recipient/candidate cohort, analyzes the outcomes, identifies challenges, and discusses opportunities to better serve patients with ACHD heart failure. The findings reveal that most recipients have excellent outcomes (59% 10-year survival), but there are unique challenges that need to be addressed.

Summary: Congenital heart disease (CHD) patients with infective endocarditis (IE) have better survival rates compared to non-CHD patients. CHD patients are younger and have fewer comorbidities. Positive blood cultures for Streptococcus viridans and a higher prevalence of dental procedures were observed in CHD patients.

Summary: This study found that compared to receiving primary care only, ACHD patients receiving cardiology care had lower mortality and major complication rates. However, it is concerning that even in a high resource setting, almost half of ACHD patients are not receiving regular cardiac care. More efforts are needed to ensure appropriate ACHD care for patients.

Summary: Maternal stress and stressful life events during pregnancy may be associated with a higher risk of CHD in offspring, but there is no observed association for maternal anxiety and depression during pregnancy. Residual confounding, heterogeneity, and publication bias may exist as limitations in the interpretation of the results.

Summary: This study aims to explore whether Apple Watch, used as a long-term monitoring device, is effective in the early diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AF) and the prevention of cognitive function decline in older adults. By using AI-ECG to screen high-risk patients and record electrocardiograms, the effectiveness of Apple Watch will be evaluated. If successful, this approach could have significant implications on how future clinical practice leverages consumer devices for early diagnosis and disease prevention.
