Summary: Virtual reality (VR) rather than augmented reality (AR) is mainly used in dementia education and training, with immersive virtual learning potentially enhancing the knowledge, attitudes, empathy, and sensitivity of health professionals and trainees. However, there is currently a lack of conclusive and robust evidence to fully recommend the introduction of immersive virtual learning in dementia education and training, highlighting the need for additional rigorously designed research studies with larger sample sizes.

Summary: This study presents a new scale measuring attitudes towards online psychoeducational interventions (OPIs) and studied its psychometric properties in a sample of dementia caregivers, showing good structural validity and reliability. The study results indicate that participant attitudes are an important factor for attrition in online health-related interventions, with the majority preferring face-to-face interventions.

Summary: This study conducted a nine-month randomized controlled trial and found that technology-based interventions, such as smart sensors and cloud software systems, can effectively reduce anxiety in dementia caregivers. The active condition showed significantly lower anxiety levels compared to the control condition, and greater interaction with the intervention through SMS text messages was associated with greater anxiety reduction. However, the intervention did not show significant effects on depression.

Summary: The use of benzodiazepines in older patients is controversial. Anxiety disorders and benzodiazepines have been linked to dementia, but the literature is inconsistent. It is unclear whether treating anxiety with benzodiazepines, compared to anxiety disorder alone, is associated with an increased risk of dementia.

Summary: The study found that female college freshmen had higher empathy scores than males, and those with higher positive affective empathy experienced fewer high depressive symptoms. On the other hand, higher negative affective empathy and lower cognitive empathy were associated with more depressive symptoms.

Summary: Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) or micro total analysis system is a microfluidic technology that integrates and automates analytical laboratory procedures into a single instrument or chip. This article reviews the recent developments in the application of LOC biosensors for cancer detection. Microfluidics has revolutionized healthcare diagnosis by enabling the reconstruction of functional organ units on chips and studying human diseases like cancer. In the past five years, LOCs have been widely used in various biomedical applications such as bioassays, cell analysis, drug discovery, and personalized medicine. This review provides an overview of microfluidic-based cancer research, including its pros, cons, and future prospects.

Summary: This study translated the General Attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence Scale (GAAIS) into Turkish and explored the influence of personality traits, artificial intelligence anxiety, and demographics on attitudes toward artificial intelligence. The findings revealed that the level of computer use, knowledge about artificial intelligence, and AI learning anxiety significantly predicted positive attitudes, while agreeableness, AI configuration anxiety, and AI learning anxiety significantly predicted negative attitudes. These results emphasize the importance of personality traits, AI anxiety, and demographics in shaping attitudes toward AI.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the underlying causes of dementia-related anxiety (DRA) through a mixed-methods investigation. A thematic analysis of qualitative interviews with 50 community-dwelling adults without dementia diagnoses revealed seven themes contributing to DRA, including fear of diagnosis and its implications, perceived loss of control, and past familial experiences with dementia.

Summary: The accuracy of multi-slice spiral computerized tomography (MSCT) combined with colonoscopy in diagnosing synchronous colorectal carcinoma (SCC) was compared. The study found that the diagnostic accuracy was significantly higher when MSCT was combined with colonoscopy than with colonoscopy alone. There were significant differences in missed diagnosis rates between proximal and distal cancers detected by colonoscopy.

Summary: This study investigated the use of electroencephalography quantified with statistical pattern recognition (qEEG-SPR) as a tool for diagnosing dementia and differentiating dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The results showed that qEEG-SPR had high sensitivity and specificity for identifying dementia and DLB. It is a non-invasive, low-cost, and environmentally friendly method that can be implemented in healthcare settings.
