Summary: This study developed an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for the non-endoscopic triage of nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB), with mortality as a primary outcome. The machine learning models were more accurate at identifying patients who met the endpoint of mortality than any of the existing risk scores.

Summary: This observational retrospective study aimed to investigate the differences and associated factors between variceal and nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). The results showed that there was a higher rebleeding rate in patients with variceal bleeding.

Summary: A novel prediction score (CHAMPS-R Score) for in-hospital mortality in nonvariceal UGIB patients was successfully derived and externally validated, showing high discriminative ability in both derivation and validation cohorts. The CHAMPS Score outperformed existing scores such as the Glasgow Blatchford Score, AIMS65, ABC Score, and clinical Rockall Score in predicting mortality.

Summary: In patients with nonvariceal UGIB, nasogastric lavage is useful for predicting the presence of UGIB, improving the management of patients before endoscopy. However, its clinical utility is limited in high-risk patients with a GBS score of 12 or higher.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of using large OTSC versus standard hemostasis in the treatment of NVUGIB. Results showed that OTSC significantly reduced rates of rebleeding, severe complications, and post-randomization red cell transfusions, especially beneficial for patients with major stigmata of hemorrhage.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the effectiveness of Doppler endoscopic probe (DEP) in nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB) and found that DEP-related information improves prediction of rebleeding and DEP-guided management reduces overall rebleeding, bleeding-related mortality, and need for surgery in NVUGIB patients.

Summary: This study evaluated hospital outcomes of cirrhosis patients with nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB) using the 2014 Nationwide Readmission Database. The results showed that patients with decompensated cirrhosis had higher readmission rates, mortality rates, and healthcare utilization compared to those with compensated cirrhosis and no cirrhosis. Early esophagogastroduodenoscopy was a modifiable factor associated with reduced readmission rates. Early identification of high-risk patients and adherence to guidelines may improve clinical outcomes.

Summary: Nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a common, morbid, and potentially fatal condition. Management involves fluid resuscitation, blood transfusion, endoscopy, and individualized proton-pump inhibitor therapy based on patient's risk factors for recurrent bleeding in outpatient setting.

Summary: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of oral iron supplementation on hemoglobin response and iron storage in patients with anemia secondary to nonvariceal UGIB. The results showed that oral iron supplementation had beneficial effects on anemia and iron storage without significant adverse effects.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes in gastric and intestinal mucosa after transarterial embolization (TAE) and its impact on mortality rate. The study found that TAE is a safe and effective intervention for patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). Most patients showed either stability or improvement in the target lesion after TAE, and only a minority of patients demonstrated adverse mucosal changes.

Summary: This study found that prealbumin and d-dimer are independent predictors for rebleeding in NVUGIB patients, showing superior predictive value compared to traditional scoring systems. They are promising markers for assessing severity and prognosis in NVUGIB practice.

Summary: The study found that dengue patients had a significantly increased risk of acute nonvariceal upper GI bleeding within 30 days after infection, but not increased medium-term and long-term risks. Therefore, dengue patients can resume antithrombotic treatments after acute GI bleeding.

Summary: Cholecystoduodenal fistula, a rare complication of cholelithiasis, should be considered in the differential diagnosis when a patient with a history of gallstone disease presents with gastrointestinal bleeding. Surgery is usually required for significant bleeding associated with this condition.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the characteristics and etiology of acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (ANVUGIB) in recent years in a specific region. The study found that peptic ulcer is the most common cause of ANVUGIB, with gastric ulcers being more common in the elderly group and duodenal ulcers being more common in the middle-aged and young groups. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were the main inducement in the elderly group, while drinking, fatigue, and emotional excitement were more prevalent in the middle-aged and young groups.
