Summary: Pornography addiction is not recognized in the DSM-V, but can be classified as compulsive sexual behavior disorder in the ICD. CSBD is reported to have a higher incidence in patients with BPI, independent of mania. Due to the ambiguity in identifying pornography addiction, approved treatment options for concurrent CSBD and BPI are limited.

Summary: This study focuses on problematic pornography use and suggests that indicators beyond frequency or time, such as longest viewing session and variability of consumed content, influence treatment seeking and symptom severity. The research highlights the importance of considering engagement in prolonged sessions and variety of content in assessing compulsive sexual behavior disorder and related symptoms.

Summary: Compulsive sexual behavior or sexual addiction refers to excessive and uncontrolled sexual behavior that can cause distress, impair social and occupational functioning, and lead to legal and financial issues. While there are currently no FDA-approved medications for this condition, therapeutic options such as SSRIs and naltrexone are known to have benefits in managing symptoms. In a case study, a patient with a history of alcohol use disorder reported a reduction in both alcohol addiction and compulsive sexual behavior after treatment with naltrexone. Additionally, a literature review suggests that naltrexone is effective in reducing symptoms of CSB or sexual addiction without significant side effects.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of pornography use disorder (PUD) in Germany and its associated consequences, as well as the demand for and availability of specialized PUD treatment. The results showed that the estimated prevalence of PUD was 4.7% and men were more affected than women. Individuals with PUD reported more negative consequences in performance-related areas. A significant percentage of individuals with PUD expressed interest in specialized treatment, but the availability of such treatment was limited. Improving mental health services for PUD is necessary.

Summary: Despite the high accessibility of online pornography, there have been very few formal analyses on how Internet technology has affected the prevalence of pornography use in populations. A research in Poland from 2004 to 2016 showed a clear increase in the number of people viewing online pornography, with it being almost 2 times more prevalent among males than females, especially in the 18-27 age group.

Summary: This case report highlights the effective treatment of a patient with treatment-resistant schizophrenia and auto-aggressive compulsive behavior using cariprazine, a third-generation antipsychotic medication. Despite previous treatments, the patient's response had been only partial, leading to the classification of a treatment-resistant case. However, switching to cariprazine resulted in significant improvements in symptoms and the complete reduction of the harmful behavior, enhancing the patient's overall functioning and achieving remission without the side effects seen with previous treatments.

Summary: This study comprehensively examined compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) in 42 countries, different genders, and sexual orientations, and validated the CSBD-19 and CSBD-7 scales as screening tools. Results showed that 4.8% of participants were at high risk of CSBD, with differences found based on country and gender. The study contributes to a better understanding of CSBD in underrepresented populations and provides freely accessible screening tools in 26 languages.

Summary: This study examined the association between sexting and various mental health indicators, as well as the role of substance use in predicting sexting behaviors. The findings, based on data from 2,160 college students, revealed that the majority of participants had engaged in sexting, primarily in a reciprocal manner. Those who engaged in sexting showed higher levels of depression, anxiety, sleep problems, and compulsive sexual behaviors. Marijuana use was the only significant predictor of reciprocal and received only sexting, while illicit substance use was associated with sexting at a low base rate. Compulsive sexual behavior was consistently correlated with sexting, regardless of sex or sexual identity. Overall, sexting was weakly associated with depression, anxiety, and sleep problems, but strongly associated with compulsive sexuality and marijuana use. These associations did not vary significantly based on sex or sexual identity, except for a stronger effect size between sexting and compulsive sexual behaviors in females.

Summary: This article introduces raw datasets from an anonymous U.S. provider of digital gambling payments systems, covering a 6-year time period (2015-2021) with over 300,000 customers and around 90 million transaction records. One of the datasets is a transaction log file containing customer payment transaction data from various gambling merchants. The article describes the log file and provides two filtered subsets of data, specifically focused on customer payment transaction records for a casino-focused brand and a sports-focused brand. These datasets are valuable for researchers in gambling studies, behavioral sciences, and data/computer scientists, as they provide insights into individuals' payment behavior and its relation to gambling behavior.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between posttraumatic growth (PPTG) and mental health (MH) through the mediation of meaning in life (MIL). The results showed that PPTG predicted subsequent MH, with MIL mediating this effect. PPTG also predicted increased MIL, but not increased MH in the long term, although increased MIL led to increased MH. These findings suggest the importance of meaning making in the study of PPTG and its adaptive nature.

Summary: Armed Forces Veterans are particularly susceptible to problem gambling and gambling disorder, yet research on the clinical characteristics of veterans with gambling problems is lacking. Gambling activities can be categorized as strategic or non-strategic, and preferences for these activities have been found to be linked to motivations, cognitions, and the course of gambling disorder. This study examined the relationship between preferences for strategic vs. non-strategic gambling and psychiatric comorbidities among U.S. Armed Forces Veterans receiving inpatient treatment for Gambling Disorder. The results showed that gamblers preferring strategic gambling were younger, more likely to be men, less likely to have nicotine use disorder, and less likely to have PTSD, indicating a unique vulnerability to non-strategic gambling problems among armed forces veterans with PTSD.

Summary: The study investigated men's reports of sexual behaviors, hypersexuality, pornography use, pornography avoidance self-efficacy, and sensation seeking based on their sexual orientation. Heterosexual men reported less frequent pornography viewing, higher pornography avoidance self-efficacy, and lower hypersexuality compared to gay, bisexual, and uncertain men. There were no significant differences in sensation seeking behaviors by sexual orientation. Future research should examine factors contributing to hypersexual behaviors, sensation seeking, and pornography use and avoidance self-efficacy among men with different sexual orientations.
