Summary: This study examined different measurement models for the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and its measurement invariance across various subgroups. The results showed that a two-factor model with factors of 'alcohol use' and 'alcohol problems' had the best fit across countries, languages, genders, and sexual orientations. The study also found high levels of measurement invariance for the AUDIT, supporting its use in cross-cultural research and comparisons among genders and sexual orientations.

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine if AUDIT results can predict mortality after 20 years. An observational study was conducted in Germany, involving 3581 individuals who consumed alcohol. It was found that AUDIT predicted time to death, with a higher risk in individuals with higher AUDIT scores. It also predicted cardiovascular mortality in the same population sample.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the severity distribution of alcohol dependence in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) using the alcohol use disorders identification test (AUDIT). The results showed that harmful alcohol use and alcohol dependency were observed in approximately 10% of patients with viral or non-viral CLD, excluding those with alcohol-related liver disease (ARLD). Assessment of alcohol intake using AUDIT questionnaire and appropriate intervention should be considered necessary.

Summary: This study examined the psychometric properties of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) using a sample of 414 university undergraduate students. The results showed that the AUDIT had good internal consistency (alpha = .83), external divergent validity, and internal structural validity; the 2-factor model was the best fit for the data.

Summary: This study found that the COVID-19 crisis and associated lockdown measures have led to an increase in high-risk drinking patterns and frequency of drinking among middle-aged British adults. Changes in drinking behaviors, such as an increase in high-risk drinking and drinking frequency, should be monitored in the long-term following the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Substance Use Symptom Checklist (symptom checklist) used in primary care. The results showed that the symptom checklist performed well in assessing the severity of substance use disorders and was applicable to different populations. These findings support the clinical utility of the symptom checklist for standardized and more complete assessment of substance use disorder symptoms in primary care.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between the objective phosphatidylethanol (PEth) marker and the subjective Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and Timeline Followback Questionnaire (TLFB) as screening methods for hazardous alcohol use in the general ED population. The results showed that PEth can be used as an additional screening method to identify patients with problematic alcohol use who are missed by the AUDIT questionnaire.

Summary: The nerve growth factor (NGF) is a member of the neurotrophic factor family, involved in the survival, differentiation, proliferation of neurons, as well as the regulation of immune and endocrine systems. Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD) caused by heavy drinking have negative effects on brain development and cognitive functions, and can lead to fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) when consumed during pregnancy.

Summary: This study aims to determine the appropriate AUDIT-C cut-points for detecting alcohol-related problems among serving Canadian, UK and US soldiers. The results showed that AUDIT-C cut-points of >= 6/7 for men and >= 5/6 for women performed well in detecting hazardous and harmful alcohol use. This information can be useful for population surveillance, pre-deployment/post-deployment screening of military personnel, and clinical practice.

Summary: This study found associations between adolescents having parents with substance use problems and having suffered neglect within the family, and their behavioral problems including psychological and drug use issues. The participants were enrolled in the 'Assisted Freedom' program, with the majority being male adolescents aged 13-17. Factors such as living with both parents, low family income, hallucinations, violent behavior control problems, and physical neglect were found to be more common among adolescents with substance-using parents and experience of parental neglect.

Summary: The lack of closed representations for the density functions of alpha-stable distributions in Bayesian inference has historically led to the use of bivariate probability density functions and Fast Fourier Transforms of their characteristic functions. This study presents a new approach using a full power series representation for the probability density functions and provides Bayesian estimation analysis for one-dimensional stable distributions using two different parameterization systems. Goodness-of-fit tests, loss functions, decision rules, a simulation study, and two empirical applications are also included in the analysis.

Summary: This study estimated the mortality rates of Brazilian patients after their first psychiatric admission and identified possible risk factors associated with higher mortality rates. The results showed that the mortality rates were three times higher than expected, with the highest rates found in patients with alcohol-related disorders. Male sex, older age, and unemployment significantly increased the risk of mortality from all causes.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of self-reported rape and its associations with other forms of violence and mental health outcomes. The study found that women and individuals between the ages of 35 and 46, as well as those without religious affiliation, were more likely to experience rape. Other factors associated with rape included a history of childhood sexual abuse, child prostitution, and witnessing violence during childhood. Lack of social support, recent negative events, depression, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts were also related to being raped.

Summary: Understanding the needs of psychiatric patients is crucial for mental health care planning, yet research on these needs is lacking in low- and middle-income countries. A study in Brazil analyzed the met and unmet needs of patients four years after their first psychiatric hospitalization, finding that socioeconomic indicators were the best predictors of needs, with unmet needs related to welfare benefits pointing to the necessity for specific social and health policies.
