Summary: This study, based on a quasi-randomized controlled trial and panel data, found that farmers' beliefs about potential yields are influenced by first-hand and local experience, which significantly impacts their learning efforts. Farmers who participated in season-long, farmer-led demonstration plot cultivation were more willing to adopt new multi-component technology compared to those who attended only field-day events.

Summary: The study found that market price support and payments based on unconstrained variable input use are the most environmentally harmful support policies, while decoupled support payments based on noncurrent crop area are the least harmful. The impacts of support policies that directly change the competitiveness of one production activity in relation to another are more equivocal.

Summary: Using spatially granular climate data merged with household survey data in Uganda, this study empirically examines the relationships among high temperatures, crop production value, and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Results indicate that adopting organic fertilizer and maize-legume intercropping positively affects crop production value, and the longer a farmer implements these practices, the higher the production value, especially in the face of rising temperatures. Promoting the adoption and sustained use of these practices can help mitigate risks to Ugandan agriculture and farmers' livelihoods.

Summary: This study found that individual quality incentives provided by private actors can help smallholders improve milk quality in terms of compositional and hygienic quality. However, the impact of these incentives decreased over time, as shown by a decrease in hygienic quality among treated farmers.

Summary: The study found that farm-specific milk income over feed cost margin is not highly correlated with the national margin in Wisconsin dairy farms. Higher farm IOFC margin increased profit level and volatility but decreased downside risk, while farm terminal stress seems unaffected by the margin or related payments.

Summary: By using child-level panel data, the study explores the impact of income uncertainty on child labor decisions and human capital investments in agrarian economies. The results indicate that increased rainfall variability is associated with reduced child labor and increased schooling, highlighting the role of a diversification mechanism. This demonstrates the empirical relevance of income uncertainty in decision making and household investment in rural economies.

Summary: Despite the positive impact of site-specific nutrient management recommendations on maize production, they do not necessarily increase fertilizer use, while recommendations accompanied by information on variability in expected returns are more likely to induce farmers to increase fertilizer investments. However, the magnitudes of these effects are relatively small.

Summary: The study found that investment support from the Common Agricultural Policy had positive and significant long-term improvements on Swedish farm performance, but there were significant time lags between investments and observable effects.

Summary: This study demonstrates a significant relationship between a rural household's aversion to price risk and out-migration, particularly in villages lacking market mechanisms and food aid. Migration is identified as a household strategy to manage price risk. The findings contribute to the literature on the link between price risk and migration, supplementing existing research on income risk and migration.

Summary: This research examines the factors driving platform owners' decisions to enable third-party complements onto their platforms within platform-based ecosystems. The study finds that uncertainty in the complementary product market plays a significant role in this decision-making process. The findings suggest that third-party complements offer option value for platform owners, allowing them to defer their own entry into the market. The research also highlights the importance of considering both complementarity value and entry into the complementary market when managing complements within a platform-based ecosystem.

Summary: This study measures the technical efficiency of maize farmers and examines its determinants while considering unobservable time-invariant heterogeneity. The findings show that ignoring unobservable farmer heterogeneity can lead to biased technical efficiency estimates and affect the ranking of farmers. The study identifies the key determinants of technical inefficiency, such as the age, gender, and education level of the household head, household size, income, livestock ownership, and participation in off-farm activities.

Summary: The study compares promoting smallholder production systems as a growth and poverty-reduction strategy with supporting an institutional framework that enables consolidation of smallholder farms. Through model derivation and simulation analysis, it is found that transitioning to large-farm equilibrium leads to a decrease in rural household welfare but an increase in total production of staple crops. Policies promoting farm consolidation can achieve Pareto improvements.

Summary: With differing views on the best combination of energy technologies to achieve a low-carbon energy system, it is important to consider uncertainties in economic and technological factors. Neglecting these uncertainties can lead to specific technology commitments based on particular assumptions about future conditions. This study presents a flexible near-term investment strategy followed by alternative investment plans to respond to future costs and achieve aggressive emissions reduction goals.

Summary: Voluntary land registries can influence land use by facilitating public monitoring and farmers' access to credit. Participation in the rural environmental registry in Brazil affects pasture expansion but not crop areas, with variation based on farm size and environmental compliance levels. These findings suggest that environmental goals of land registry programs may be undermined by credit policies.
