Summary: The study aimed to assess the dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 anti-RBD-IgG response in older individuals after COVID-19 infection or vaccination. It was found that vaccination after infection can maintain significantly higher antibody titer levels for a prolonged period of time.

Summary: Recent discoveries of three human protoparvoviruses, BuV, TuV, and CuV, in diarrheal stool samples have shed light on their association with gastrointestinal symptoms. The prevalence of CuV DNA was found to vary among different patient cohorts, with higher rates in older GE patients in Finland and in children from Latvia and Malawi. Detection of CuV DNA in GE patients without known causal pathogens suggests a potential role in gastrointestinal infections. Additionally, the first observation of CuV DNA in nasopharyngeal aspirates from children with respiratory tract infections highlights the potential broad spectrum of infections caused by protoparvoviruses.

Summary: In young and middle-aged healthy adults, CMV infection causes mild expansion of CMV-specific CD8(+) T cells, decreased CD70 expression and signaling, and reduced proliferation of CMV-specific CD8(+) T-CM cells. These effects are age-independent and specific to CMV infection.

Summary: This study validates the use of tetramer-aided Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) sorting to enrich antigen-specific CD8+ T cells for single-cell analysis, and identifies an ASR gene signature that has predictive value for response to cancer immunotherapy.

Summary: This study evaluates the humoral response and neutralising capacity in older adults vaccinated with different platforms. It finds that individuals vaccinated with Sputnik V or AZD1222 have significantly higher specific anti-Spike IgG titers compared to those vaccinated with BBIBP-CorV. There is a strong correlation between anti-Spike IgG titers and neutralising activity levels. Previous exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and age <80 years are associated with higher specific antibody levels. Neutralising capacity decreases after 6 months for all vaccine platforms. Neutralising capacity against Omicron is lower compared to ancestral B.1 for all vaccine platforms.

Summary: Neisseria meningitidis, a pathogen causing invasive meningococcal disease (IMD), poses a significant public health burden with high case fatality rates. Older adults are increasingly affected, particularly by serogroups W and Y, which are not usually predominant. Vaccination strategies and public health programs may need to be evaluated to address this shifting epidemiology.

Summary: This study demonstrates that regular combined exercise training can improve the specific antibody response to influenza virus vaccination in CMV-seropositive older adults. The improvement in response was associated with an anti-inflammatory status and enhancement of naive CD8(+) T cells, particularly in the group practicing combined exercise training.

Summary: This study found that CMV latent infection is associated with more problems in self-regulation among older adults, while T. gondii is only associated with self-regulation problems in women. This suggests that latent infection might affect self-regulation factors, but not neuropsychological test performance.

Summary: Aging is an increasing concern for people with HIV, and age-related conditions and disabilities are on the rise. This study found a link between the CD4(+)/CD8(+) ratio and functional decline in activities of daily living (ADL). A CD4(+)/CD8(+) ratio of less than 1 may predict the development of ADL decline.

Summary: Granzyme B (GZB) and K (GZK) expression in different lymphoid cell-types, including NK cells and T-cells, were found to be significantly higher in older adults compared to younger individuals. These expression levels were associated with age-related health traits and the antibody response to high-dose influenza vaccine. The findings suggest that granzyme expression may play a role in influencing vaccine responsiveness in older adults.
