Summary: Despite a lack of documented homoploid hybridization events in plants, this study provides insights into the evolutionary consequence of homoploid hybridization in kiwifruit species. Through genome sequencing and population genomic analyses, the study reveals that A. zhejiangensis is mainly composed of F-1 hybrids of A. hemsleyana and A. eriantha, with gene flow initiating about 0.98 million years ago. The study also identifies five inversions containing genes related to pollen germination and pollen tube growth that may account for the fertility breakdown in hybrids. Despite distinct morphological traits, A. zhejiangensis does not initiate speciation.

Summary: Allopatry is considered to be a main contributor to Neotropical biodiversity. In this study, the genetic divergence of five Pyrrhulina species was assessed using population genomics, and the results were combined with cytogenetic data. The findings indicate that molecular genetic diversity is consistent with chromosomal features, and species located in the same geographical region have a closer relationship.

Summary: This study investigated the karyotype and genetic variability of Ceratocystis fimbriata isolates from different host plants and geographical origins in Brazil. Chromosomal polymorphism was observed, indicating genomic differences and chromosomal rearrangements in the species complex. REMAP analysis revealed high genetic variability and clustering of isolates from the same host. These findings provide new insights into the chromosomal diversity and genome organization of the C. fimbriata complex.

Summary: The study investigates the role of the Spt4-Spt5 complex in non-coding transcription and genome rearrangements using Paramecium tetraurelia as a model organism. The results show that Spt4 is essential for the expression of the germline genome and necessary for developmental genome rearrangements. Silencing of SPT4 genes leads to the absence of double-stranded ncRNAs and reduced levels of scnRNAs. Additionally, a germline-specific Spt4-Spt5m complex is found to be necessary for the transfer of the scnRNA-binding PIWI protein between the germline and somatic nucleus.
