A general method for the in situ fabrication of polythiophene microstructures adjacent to Au microelectrodes via a combination of nanotransfer printing and electric field induced polymerization is presented. The resulting polythiophene microsensor array has an ultralow detection limit (ppb, 10(-9)) for volatile organic compounds.
