Summary: ZnO and Ir-doped ZnO thin films were fabricated by sol-gel spin coating technique. The structures and properties of the films were investigated. The addition of Ir increased the volume of the unit cell, atomic packing fraction, and grain size of the thin films. Optical bandgap decreased with Ir substitution. The transmittance and optical dielectric properties were also affected by Ir doping.

Summary: Pure ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO thin films were prepared by chemical bath deposition method with various Mn doping concentrations. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the films were analyzed using different techniques. XRD analysis revealed hexagonal structured ZnO in all films, with a peak shift observed in Mn-doped films. The crystallite size increased with Mn doping. The surface morphology of Mn-doped films exhibited irregularly shaped agglomerated particles. The transmittance spectra showed higher transmittance in the visible region, which decreased with Mn doping, indicating increased optical absorption. The band gap of Mn-doped films decreased with Mn doping. Mn-doped films exhibited higher optical and electrical conductivity in the UV region.

Summary: In this research, Zn1-xAlxO thin films with varying proportions of Al were prepared and characterized for their crystal structure, morphology, and humidity-sensing properties. The results showed that increasing the Al-doping concentration led to larger crystallite sizes, changes in surface morphology, and improved humidity sensing performance.

Summary: In this study, Lanthanum-doped ZnO thin films with different concentrations of Lanthanum were prepared using the spin-coating method and their electronic, optical and structural properties were investigated using DFT and TB-mBJ. Experimental results showed that the films had a wide band gap of 3.17 eV and a hexagonal wurtzite structure. The transmittance in the visible region and the absorption coefficient increased with the concentration of La.

Summary: Highly c-axis oriented ZnO thin films with wurtzite structure were grown onto preheated glass using spray pyrolysis technique with varying Al/Zn ratios. The films exhibited good optical properties and antibacterial activity against Escherichia Coli bacteria, with enhanced efficacy on increasing Al/Zn ratio. These antimicrobial coatings have potential applications in surgical instruments, protective hospital apparels, medical implants, storage containers, textile, and food packs.

Summary: In this work, ion implantation of Mn and As ions into ZnO films significantly altered their optical properties, leading to changes in refractive index and extinction coefficient. The presence of Mn ions also introduced a halfmetallic property to the ZnO films, resulting in gentler variations in optical characteristics. These findings suggest new possibilities for the design and optimization of optoelectronic devices utilizing ZnO thin films with semi-metallic properties.

Summary: In this research study, pure and nickel-doped ZnO nanostructured films were synthesized and their structural, morphological, and optical properties were investigated. Nickel doping resulted in a decrease in crystallite size and the formation of nanofiber structures on the film surface. Optical studies showed high transparency and specific emission peaks for the films. The Ni-doped ZnO nanostructured films exhibited high UV sensitivity and photoresponse.

Summary: Cobalt-doped ZnO thin films synthesized using chemical bath deposition show excellent UV photosensing properties, with nanowire morphology and hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure. Due to the replacement of Co2+ ions, an increase in crystallite size and decrease in bandgap was observed, leading to high photoabsorption capability, with the highest responsivity reaching 0.918 AW(-1).

Summary: The growth of undoped and nitrogen-doped ZnO thin films using RF magnetron sputtering was studied. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the films were analyzed, with XRD confirming the hexagonal crystal structure of the nitrogen-doped ZnO films. The transmittance, optical band gap, and refractive index of the films were influenced by the nitrogen doping concentration and thickness dependence.

Summary: The effect of thermal annealing on the structural, optical, and photoelectric properties of thin ZnO:Tb3+ films obtained by a combination of electrochemical deposition and reactive magnetron sputtering has been investigated. The annealed films exhibited close-packed structures, smooth surfaces, and dense packing of crystallites. The crystallite size and film thickness showed insignificant increases with increasing annealing temperature. The films showed strong green luminescence caused by intracenter 4f transitions on Tb3+ ions, with no redistribution in the relative intensity of the luminescence bands observed with increasing annealing temperature. The photoelectric properties of the films showed that the spectral sensitivity increased in absolute value and shifted towards shorter wavelengths with increasing bias voltage, while the photosensitivity decreased with increasing annealing temperature and practically disappeared at 1100 degrees C.

Summary: In this study, zinc oxide thin films doped with various ratios of niobium were successfully synthesized using direct current/radio frequency sputtering technique. The effects of niobium on the films were examined through XPS, XRD, and atomic force microscopy. As the niobium content increased, changes in the physical structure, roughness, and optical properties of the ZnO films were observed and confirmed.

Summary: Hydrophilic and photocatalytically active ZnO and ZnO thin films doped with rare earth metal oxides (Yb2O3 and Eu2O3) were successfully prepared using a combination of sol-gel technique, spin-coating, and thermal treatment. The films exhibited high optical transmittance and were tested for their morphology, chemical composition, roughness, and optical properties. The degradation efficiency of rhodamine B in aqueous solution was also analyzed, showing promising results for water purification. The presented methodology can be applied to coatings for photovoltaic panels and architectural glass structures.
