Knockdown of IM33 in glia leads to increased gut ROS levels and altered gut microbiota composition, resulting in a shortened lifespan. Dysbiosis also induces sleep fragmentation through the activation of insulin-producing cells in the brain. Identifying molecular mediators of these processes could contribute to the development of innovative strategies for extending lifespan.
