The increase in shale gas supply stimulates the exploration of different conversion paths from natural gas to fuels and chemicals. Methanol is a natural gas derivative with a strategic role in the production of,fuels and chemicals. A. promising industrial option is the conversion of methanol feedstock into propylene under affordable and economical reaction Conditions. Although the methanol-to-hydrocarbon (MTH) reaction is a known technology for a few decades, key details related to catalyst development and overall experimental design must be fully explored. Therefore, the paper tailors recent updates on the progress made, especially on the key identified and prospective catalysts such as zeolites (i.e., silicoaluminates) and silicoaluminophosphates (SAPOs). This mini review also discusses the role of catalyst textural and acidity properties, reaction conditions, and associated reaction mechanisms.
