A preliminary X-ray study of the title molecular salt, [Ni(CH4N2S)(6)](NO3)(2), has been reported twice previously, by Maar [Acta Cryst. (1961), 14, 894] and Rodriguez, Cubero, Vega, Morente & Vazquez [Acta Cryst. (1961), 14, 1101], using film methods. We confirm the previous studies, but to modern standards of precision and with all H atoms located. The central Ni atom (site symmetry (1) over bar) of the dication is octahedrally coordinated by six S-bound thiourea molecules. The crystal structure is stabilized by intra- and intermolecular N-H...S and N-H...O hydrogen bonds.

Summary: The microwave absorber nanocomposites made of substituted M-type hexaferrite Ba0.8Gd0.2Fe11.5Co0.5O19 and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) were studied for X-band applications. The magnetic and dielectric properties of the composites were found to vary with ferrite content, where increasing ferrite content resulted in higher saturation magnetization and lower coercivity.

Hafiz Muhammad Arshad, Amir Shahzad, Sammia Shahid, Sadaqat Ali, Abdul Rauf, Shahzad Sharif, Muhammad Ehsan Ullah, Muhammad Inam Ullah, Muhammad Ali, Hafiz Ishfaq Ahmad

Summary: Zirconium nanoparticles can be synthesized through various methods such as sol-gel, hydrothermal, laser ablation, and precipitation. These methods can change the features of zirconium metal oxide nanoparticles. The synthesized products are characterized using techniques like X-ray diffraction, SEM, TEM, UV-absorption spectroscopy, and PL spectroscopy. Zirconium oxide nanoparticles have wide applications in the medical field, particularly in hip arthroplasty and bone tissue applications. Additionally, the development of near-infrared absorbing small molecules for phototheranostic applications is discussed.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have high porosity and can be tailored to have desired properties such as high surface area and stability. In this study, a bi-linker copper MOF (Cu-B-MI MOF) was successfully synthesized and characterized for hybrid supercapacitor applications. The fabricated asymmetric supercapacitor (Cu-B-MI MOF//activated carbon (AC)) exhibited high specific energy and power density, making Cu-B-MI MOF a competitive cathode material for future energy storage applications.

A facile and highly selective fluorimetric chemosensor 1,2,4-Aminonaph-thol sulfonic acid for detection of copper ions in aqueous medium

Muhammad Shahbaz, Shahzad Sharif, Maham Saeed, Alishba Ashraf, Tayyaba Tur Rehman Afzal

Summary: 1,2,4-Aminonaphthol sulfonic acid (H) exhibits strong fluorescence properties and can be used for cation identification. In aqueous medium, sensor (H) selectively complexes with Cu2+ ions while not affected by other metal ions. The study confirms static and dynamic quenching mechanisms. The stoichiometric ratio between metal ions and receptor was found to be 1:1. With an association constant of Ka (1.43 x 103 M-1) for Cu2+ ions calculated using the Benesi Hildebrand equation. The fluorescence study demonstrates that the sensor (H) can efficiently detect Cu2+ ions in aqueous medium without needing to maintain the pH of the solution.
