Summary: Creating durable hydrophobic coatings with nano-scale thickness remains challenging, but by developing artificial lipid-like interfaces using fluorine-carbon molecular chains, high stability can be achieved. These interfaces exhibit high adhesion in wet conditions, maintaining coating integrity and improving condensation heat transfer efficiency.

Summary: The structure and composition of dental enamel are crucial for understanding tooth decay, enamel development, and dental treatment. This study used synchrotron X-ray diffraction and machine learning to investigate the differences in crystallographic parameters between different microarchitectural domains of enamel. It was found that the composition of crystallites varies, and a model was used to predict the concentration of minority ions. These results provide new insights into the complexity of enamel and have implications for modeling its mechanical and chemical performance.

Summary: Amelogenesis imperfecta is a congenital form of enamel hypoplasia, and miRNAs, specifically miR-1306-5p, miR-3195, and miR-3914, have been identified as potential regulators of genes associated with the condition. Advanced bioinformatic analyses revealed potential roles for miRNAs in amelogenesis imperfecta.

Summary: Porcelain enamel coatings are inorganic coatings that can be successfully applied to various metallic substrates for high chemical resistance and corrosion protection. The addition of silver-based additives can develop durable antibacterial enamel coatings, which have the potential to inhibit the spread of pathogens in public spaces.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Na2CO3 on the properties and hydration products of cement-limestone powder-slag ternary blends. The results showed that Na2CO3 could accelerate the early hydration process and improve the compressive strength and surface resistivity in the early stage. However, it limited the development of compressive strength and ultrasonic velocity in the later stages and reduced the calcium hydroxide content while increasing the crystallinity of calcium carbonate.

Summary: The previously undesired calcium sulfosilicate phase ternesite has gained attention due to its potential to replace ye'elimite in calcium sulfoaluminate clinkers and contribute to their strength development. However, the formation of thaumasite during ternesite hydration, especially in the presence of ettringite, has not been fully explored. In this study, synthesized ternesite was hydrated in the presence of ettringite, carbonated ettringite, portlandite, and calcite. Thaumasite only formed in samples initially containing ettringite. Dissolution and/or carbonation of ettringite, along with its surface template effect, is suggested to initiate thaumasite nucleation via the solid solution route.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of specimens blended with different biochar contents and found that the addition of biochar decreases workability, compressive strength, and ultrasonic pulse velocity. It also increases chloride diffusivity and electrical resistivity, and impacts the formation of hydration products.

Summary: Concentration gradient diffusion coefficients for Ce3+, Co2+, Mn2+ and Fe2+ cations are determined in Nafion®211 membranes. The diffusion coefficients of transition metal dications are similar under water saturated conditions. The diffusion coefficients of Ce3+ show a strong dependence on membrane hydration level.

Summary: A novel zwitterionic polyurethane (ZPU) was designed to eliminate bacterial attachment on polyurethane (PU) coatings, achieving long-lasting surface hydrophilicity and improved toughness through inter-diffusion with acrylic polyurethane (APU). The enriched ZPU on the coating surface demonstrated superior antibacterial efficacy even after mechanical abrasion, making it feasible for large-scale application on commercial vinyl tarpaulin. The inter-diffused PU coating showed low batch-to-batch deviation and no delamination, indicating its potential for scalable production from laboratory to practical use.

Summary: Proteomics has emerged as an attractive alternative to DNA analysis for studying human and animal material. It overcomes the limitations of DNA amplification in ancient samples, contamination, high cost, and limited preservation of nuclear DNA. Proteomics allows for relatively simple and cost-effective sex estimation by analyzing proteins preserved in tooth enamel, offering reduced destruction and minimum sample size requirements.

Summary: Concrete significantly impacts the atmosphere due to the high carbon dioxide emissions in its production process. Adding nano-silica to concrete can improve its strength, durability, and microstructural characteristics. Around 2-4% of nano-silica is suitable for enhancing the physical and mechanical properties of different types of concrete.
