Summary: This study reveals the impact of silver on plants by evaluating the expression of genes and proteins involved in maintaining cell's electrochemical gradient and redox potential. Exposure to different forms of silver resulted in upregulation of catalase expression and downregulation of IDH expression in plant roots. Silver nanoparticles have been shown to affect the expression of membrane transporters and enzymes related to oxidative stress in plants.

Summary: Based on a systematic review of over 9,000 scientific papers on PubMed, we found that these papers contain immunofluorescent images of cells from the central nervous system (CNS), supporting the findings of over 50,000 associated researchers. However, few papers discuss immunofluorescent imaging from an image-processing perspective. We analyzed the literature to determine common image processing methods and identified gaps in documentation and reporting in the CNS research field.

Summary: In comparison to bulk or single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics preserves spatial information and can be mapped to immunofluorescent stainings. 10x Genomics Visium platform combines spatial transcriptomics with immunofluorescent staining of cryo-sectioned tissue slices. An improved protocol is proposed which does not alter RNA quality and allows the use of additional antibodies.

Summary: The remodeling of cerebral microvessels has a significant impact on brain plasticity and neurodegenerative diseases. Abnormal neoangiogenesis and microvascular regression are associated with blood-brain barrier breakdown, neuroinflammation, and dysfunction of the neurovascular unit. This review summarizes the mechanisms of blood vessel regression and pruning, and discusses novel approaches to modulating cerebral remodeling and preventing aberrant microvascular activity in chronic neurodegeneration.

Summary: This study presents a novel method for drug interaction screening on cellulose membranes and successfully applies it to the identification of multiple drug targets. The method reliably identifies known targets of natural products in a short period of time, providing an efficient means for drug development.

Summary: A novel transgenic rat model was generated by cross-breeding APP and Tau rats, and was characterized using PET imaging and immunofluorescence analysis. An age-related increase in [C-11]PiB and [F-18]THK-5317 binding was observed in several brain regions in the APP/Tau group, but not in the control group. The study revealed low human tau and amyloid fibril expression levels in the model, questioning its utility for further studies.

Summary: ASK1-K716R enhances blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity by inhibiting the ASK1/JNKs pathway in endothelial cells, thereby reducing the degradation of tight junction proteins following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Additionally, it suppresses the infiltration of peripheral immune cells and attenuates microglia-mediated neuroinflammation following TBI. ASK1-K716R mitigates white matter injury and facilitates the long-term recovery of neurological function after TBI.

Summary: PDE4 inhibitor Roflumilast protects against neuronal damage caused by immune ischemia and activates Notch1/Hes1 signaling, leading to increased expression of TJ and AJ proteins and maintenance of blood-brain barrier integrity. Roflu also improves neurobehavioral outcomes and ameliorates BBB disruption in rats.

Summary: In the respiratory tract, extracellular 3',5'-cAMP is metabolized by enzymes to produce 5'-AMP, adenosine, and inosine, affecting airway smooth muscle contraction and relaxation. This extracellular enzymatic system plays a role in respiratory physiology and pathophysiology by generating interstitial adenosine from 3',5'-cAMP.

Summary: Fungal oligopeptide transporters (Fot) Fot1, Fot2, and Fot3 are found in Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine strains, having been horizontally transferred from Torulaspora microellipsoides. These transporters play a crucial role in the utilization of oligopeptides in enological fermentation, with each Fot member showing specificity towards di-/tripeptides and being potentially regulated by the Nitrogen Catabolite Repression system. This study enhances our understanding of Fot family members and their importance in wine fermentation by S. cerevisiae.
