Summary: Lanthanide-based luminescent hybrid materials, which consist of organic moieties as sensitizers and inorganic lanthanide ions as activators, have been extensively studied in fields such as sensing, LEDs, security inks, bioimaging, and improving the stability/efficiency of halide perovskite-based optoelectronic devices. Recent developments include near-infrared dye-sensitized hybrid upconverting materials and the use of lanthanide-based hybrid materials to enhance the stability and efficiency of halide perovskite optoelectronic devices.

Summary: Two single lanthanide coordination polymers and their doped lanthanide analogue were prepared through hydrothermal methods, displaying different emission spectra such as red, yellow to green, and white light emission. The doped CPs with Eu(III) ions exhibit a significantly larger thermal sensitivity compared to the undoped ones.

Summary: In this study, a bifunctional ligand with alkynyl modification was used to construct a lanthanide compound Eu-MOF, which was then used as a platform to anchor silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs). The Eu-MOF exhibited dual emission peaks and the intensity ratio of the peaks showed a linear relationship with temperature, allowing for temperature detection in the low temperature region. After anchoring the Ag NCs, the blue emission of the Eu-MOF was quenched, indicating successful confinement of the Ag NCs and change in electronic distribution. The Ag NCs@Eu-MOF also showed good catalytic activity for cycloaddition reaction. This study provides insights into the changes in optical properties of luminescent MOFs and Ag NCs and expands their potential applications.

Summary: Precisely composition-tuned lanthanide-organic thin films with white light emission are fabricated using ALD/MLD technique. The emission characteristics are comparable to or even better than those of commercial incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and LED lamps. The films consist of up to four lanthanide species and terephthalate as the organic linker, which not only provides mechanical flexibility and defines the distance between lanthanide ions but also exhibits UV/blue broad-band emission upon UV excitation. The emission energy is efficiently transferred to Er3+ ions, resulting in longer wavelength emission, while Tb and Eu contribute to green and red emissions, producing warm white light emission in the films. By controlling the distribution of Ln dopants using a three-layer composition, the emission intensity is increased fourfold.

Summary: In this study, hybrid hydrogels with mechanical anisotropy and luminescent anisotropy were successfully constructed through the copolymerization of nanoparticle-coated nanotubes and a lanthanide complex in a directed magnetic field. The resulting hydrogels exhibited significantly higher anisotropic parameters compared to those prepared using traditional nanofillers, making them a promising strategy for designing highly anisotropic soft materials.

Summary: Solid-state lighting sources based on light-emitting diodes have a significant impact on energy-saving, but the increasing demand for rare-earth materials and the risk of monopolistic supply pose challenges for the development of WLEDs. Luminescent organic materials offer a promising alternative, and we report a rare-earth-free WLED with high color rendering index and deep-red color rendering.

Summary: We report the synthesis, structures, magnetic, and luminescence properties of a new series of tetranuclear lanthanide-based germsesquioxanes. These compounds exhibit characteristic Ln3+-based emission in solid state at room and liquid nitrogen temperature. The mixed Tb3+/Eu3+ compound works as a self-referenced ratiometric optical thermometer with a maximum relative sensitivity of 0.87% °C-1 achieved at 57.6 degrees C.
