Summary: This article presents a puzzle about the norms of disagreement and inquiry, specifically focusing on a type of disagreement called mild disagreement. The author formulates the puzzle as an inconsistent triad and explores possible responses before offering their own solution, which involves a new understanding of inquiry as an alternative to a prominent account by Jane Friedman.

Summary: We examine the impact of environmental rating disagreement (ERD) on future corporate greenwashing behavior. Our findings suggest that ERD increases the likelihood of corporate greenwashing, primarily through agency costs and corporate information opacity mechanisms. The relationship between ERD and corporate greenwashing is stronger in heavily-polluted firms and is also significantly influenced by internal incentives. In the presence of ERD, firms with higher internal supervision intensity and external investor attention exhibit a smaller or even insignificant increase in greenwashing. Overall, our research highlights the importance of unifying environmental rating standards, improving internal supervision, and expanding external monitoring to curb greenwashing.

Summary: According to the skeptical argument from disagreement, one should suspend judgement if others disagree. However, critics argue that the argument fails when there is an imbalance in the number of people on each side. This paper explores the idea that a group can be more likely to arrive at the correct view through majority rule. The authors show that even with moderate dependence, group competence exceeds individual competence, providing confidence to those proposing asymmetry to counter the skeptical argument.

Summary: This study on a Chinese peer-to-peer online lending platform suggests that credit ratings of new borrowers are not reliable indicators of default, with a default rate as high as 56%. This situation not only increases investment risk for lenders but also raises systemic risk for platforms, explaining the operational difficulties faced by over 86% of Chinese lending platforms.

Summary: This study found a mismatch between credit rating and default risk in P2P lending projects, and the mismatch was more pronounced in projects with high ratings, large loan amounts, and less personal information. The study questions the credibility of using internal credit ratings in related research, as they can be manipulated by the platform.

Summary: Using data from 16,144 peer-to-peer properties in London, this study examines the impact of user-generated content on occupancy rate, specifically focusing on rating and sentiment. The findings suggest that both rating and sentiment have a significant positive effect on occupancy rate, and there is evidence of interaction between the two factors. An outstanding review can increase occupancy by a fifth for a typical property analyzed.

Summary: Those paying for peer review could ensure the conditions of the review are met, and editors and publishers should demand tighter timelines and more consistency and professionalism in the review process. Universities should provide formal support for peer review, and academics should be expected to contribute and be held accountable.
