Summary: This study examines the determinants of high double product (DP) by evaluating the association between resting DP and blood test results and lifestyle factors. The results show that age, hematocrit, and gamma-glutamyl transferase levels are positively associated with high DP in both men and women. Additionally, insulin resistance is positively associated with high DP in women, while exercise is negatively associated with high DP in men. The study concludes that high DP at rest is associated with insulin resistance, gamma-glutamyl transferase, and exercise in participants without underlying disease.

Summary: The study analyzed the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism database to investigate factors associated with nutritional status and intravenous supplementation dependency in children with chronic intestinal failure (CIF). The main mechanism of CIF in young children was short bowel syndrome (SBS), while intestinal dysmotility or mucosal disease were more common in adults. About one-third of patients were underweight or stunted and had high IVS dependency.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate sex differences in exercise motivation in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The results showed that men's main exercise purpose was to increase physical fitness and muscle strength, while women aimed to maintain or improve their current functional status and prevent limb weakness. Women had weaker muscle strength and poorer exercise habits than men, and faced more difficulties in daily life, indicating their exercise purpose was to reduce daily life difficulties and the burden on family. Women also had a higher fear of falls, suggesting prevention of falls may be a key motivation. Considering sex differences in exercise purpose is necessary for designing exercise regimens and motivating participants.

Summary: Background: Despite potential negative consequences, little is known about how individuals with dementia perceive life satisfaction. This study found that, after adjusting for individual characteristics, there was no difference in life satisfaction between individuals with probable dementia and those without. However, dementia status was associated with lower life satisfaction through the mediation of limitations in daily living activities.

Summary: Using a regression discontinuity design, this study investigated the impact of no cost sharing on paediatric care usage and health outcomes in Japan. The results showed that no cost sharing was associated with increased outpatient care usage and spending, but did not affect inpatient care usage. Notably, the effect of no cost-sharing policy was greater among children from high-income households, suggesting that it disproportionately benefits higher-income families and may contribute to larger disparities.

Summary: Patient-surgeon gender concordance does not appear to have a significant impact on post-operative mortality rates among patients in the United States. However, there may be a slight decrease in mortality for female patients when their surgeon is of the same gender, but a slight increase in mortality for male patients. Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest that patient-surgeon gender concordance affects operative mortality for non-elective procedures.
