Summary: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) continues to be a significant burden in low-income and middle-income countries, as well as certain populations within high-income countries. A workshop was held to discuss the current state of RHD and identify research priorities for its eradication. The report focuses on assessing the management of late complications of RHD and outlines priorities for the development and implementation of interventions in low-resource settings.

Summary: The Sensitization in Transplantation: Assessment of Risk workgroup, a collaboration between the American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, aims to improve histocompatibility testing in support of solid organ transplantation. This report updates previous discussions and introduces two areas of exploration: non-human leukocyte antigen antibodies and the use of human leukocyte antigen antibody testing to evaluate antibody-removal therapies.

Summary: The VGOS system reduces measurement noise significantly during broadband observations, with key issues including source structure effects and systematic errors such as discrete delay jumps. There is a strong correlation between group delay and delta TEC observables, with different trends observed under large structure effects compared to when measurement noise is dominant.

Summary: There are variations and challenges in response criteria for paediatric intracranial ependymoma. The Response Assessment in the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (RAPNO) working group was established to address these issues and develop response assessment recommendations. The recommendations include assessing disease response based on changes in tumour volume and using event-free survival as a study endpoint. Various assessment methods are recommended.

Social Work

Summary: In societies with majority and minority populations, government failure often leads to bias towards the hegemonic majority, resulting in inequality and injustice. However, in the Arab minority in Israel, a third sector has emerged, allowing social workers to adopt critical practices as a means of resistance. These practices involve daily, incremental interventions that aim to address oppressive community agents and challenge government institutions. Through these actions, Arab social workers serve as potential envoys, spreading the message of critical practice to colleagues in the public sector and advocating for change. This research highlights the importance of critical practice in addressing government failure in heterogeneous societies, especially among minority groups.

Summary: This article discusses the assessment and communication of the long-term morbidity impact of vaccines against enteric pathogens, and calls for a comprehensive evaluation of their value when investing in vaccine development and deployment. By analyzing historical data and conducting systematic reviews, it aims to enhance the understanding of the long-term morbidity impact of enteric diseases.

Summary: Craniopharyngioma is a histologically benign tumor of the suprasellar region. Standard therapy includes maximal safe resection with or without radiation therapy. The Response Assessment in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (RAPNO) committee devised consensus guidelines to assess craniopharyngioma response, including the use of magnetic resonance imaging and incorporating functional endpoints into response definitions. Standardized response parameters for craniopharyngioma have not been defined.

Summary: The proposed classification of PyVAN did not effectively stratify patients according to risk, especially with no significant difference between classes 1 and 2. Additionally, timing post-transplantation and inflammation in areas of interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy may contribute to unfavorable allograft outcomes in patients with PyVAN.

Summary: This study examines the role of micropile groups (MPGs) in stabilizing talus slopes and proposes a numerical method that combines the discrete element method (DEM) with the finite element method (FEM) to investigate their performance. The results show that MPGs can significantly improve slope stability and prevent shallow slips. It was also found that MPGs with a pile spacing four times the pile diameter perform the best. Moreover, the bidirectional anchorage between the platform and the bedrock enhances the performance of MPGs.

Summary: People with disabilities face barriers to care in various aspects of health care, leading to significant disparities. Institutional policies and physical layout may unintentionally promote ableism, perpetuating inaccessibility for the disability community. Evidence-based interventions at the provider and institutional levels include universal design strategies, electronic medical record accessibility, and policy development to reduce discrimination. Training on care for patients with disabilities and implicit bias can address provider-level barriers. These efforts are crucial for equitable access to quality care.
