Summary: The incidence of remission of type 2 diabetes is generally low in routine care settings, but it may be a reasonable goal for patients who lose a significant amount of weight shortly after diagnosis. Factors associated with higher odds of remission include shorter duration of diagnosis, non-prescription of glucose-lowering medication, lower HbA(1c) and BMI levels, White ethnicity, female sex, and lower socioeconomic deprivation.

Summary: This Korean population-based study examines the patterns of hypothyroidism after adjuvant radiation therapy in patients with breast cancer. It found that the incidence and rates of hypothyroidism were higher in patients receiving radiation therapy compared to those who did not. The increased risk was evident immediately after treatment and persisted for approximately 9 years.

Summary: The study found that adults with asthma had a 75% greater risk of incident cancer, with the risk being highest in the first 2 years after diagnosis. Patients with nonatopic asthma had a higher risk of overall cancer than those with atopic asthma. High cumulative dose of inhaled corticosteroids was associated with a reduced risk of lung cancer, but not overall cancer. Results from two different Korean cohorts showed a consistent association between asthma development and subsequent cancer risk.

Summary: The incidence of cancer development after cholecystectomy remains debatable, with overall cancer rates similar between cholecystectomy patients and the general population, but younger patients who underwent cholecystectomy are at a higher risk. Particularly, incidences of colorectal cancer and liver cancer were higher in cholecystectomy patients across all age groups and genders.

Summary: This study aimed to calculate growth-curves for the longitudinal development of fatigue after treatment for childhood cancer and investigate the effects of biopsychosocial predictors. Results showed that children and adolescents treated for CNS-tumors reported more cognitive fatigue than those with solid tumors, and this difference remained over time. Parental distress was the variable most associated with increased fatigue.

Summary: Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort database, this study investigated the relationship between gout and the risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC). The findings suggest that gout may not significantly and independently contribute to the risk of CRC in the general population, but there may be a slight reduction in the likelihood of CRC among patients younger than 65 years with gout.

The findings highlighted that the age at diagnosis, especially 51-60 years, was a critical risk for cancer incidence and mortality and may represent a potential preventative window for cancer.

Summary: A study in Denmark found an increasing incidence of venous thromboembolism after a first primary cancer diagnosis from 2006 to 2017, but a declining trend in 30-day and 1-year mortality rates following venous thromboembolism. Summary: This prospective study evaluated radiation dermatitis in breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. Objective changes in skin parameters and patient-reported outcomes were compared between breast-conserving surgery and modified radical mastectomy groups. The study found that hydration, sebum, and melanin levels on the irradiated breast changed significantly during and after radiation therapy, with symptoms persisting up to 3 months post-treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive performance of previously constructed cefoxitin pharmacokinetic models and the feasibility of administering cefoxitin via target-controlled infusion in clinical practice. Two external validation studies were conducted sequentially. The results showed that models constructed with total concentration data were more suitable for clinical use. Administering cefoxitin using the TCI method maintained the free concentration above the minimal inhibitory concentration of pathogens causing surgical site infection throughout the operation period.

Summary: The study identified factors associated with the choice of active surveillance (AS) for patients with low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) including patient age, tumor size, consultation with an endocrinologist, and use of a decision aid. Patients in the AS group were more influenced by information from the media, while those in the immediate surgery (iOP) group were more influenced by family members.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between dietary seaweed intake, iodine intake, the rs77277498 polymorphism of the SLC5A5 gene, and thyroid cancer risk in a Korean population. The results showed that dietary seaweed and iodine intakes were inversely related to thyroid cancer risk, and this association was further strengthened by the SLC5A5 rs77277498 genotype.

Summary: The delivery flow of an infusion system is ideally proportional to the mechanical actuation of the syringe pump plunger. However, in reality, the compliance of the overall infusion system can be affected by factors such as tubing length and syringe size. Increasing compliance leads to higher chances of flow irregularity. This experimental study found that the compliance of a syringe pump system increases when using larger syringe sizes or longer infusion tubing, which can result in delayed occlusion alarms.

Summary: This study evaluated the risk of thyroid cancer in a lung cancer screening population based on the presence of incidental thyroid nodules detected on low-dose chest computed tomography (LDCT). The results showed that the incidence of thyroid cancer was higher in the ITN-positive group compared to the ITN-negative group, but all cancers were papillary thyroid microcarcinomas (PTMCs). Therefore, thorough screening for thyroid incidentalomas may not be necessary in patients with a heavy smoking history.

Summary: This study investigated the surgical and clinical outcomes of active surveillance (AS) and delayed operation after AS (DOP) in patients with low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). The results suggest that AS might be a viable alternative treatment option for low-risk PTMC patients, reducing the extent of thyroidectomy and postoperative complications in the DOP group.

Summary: Despite evidence showing the cost-effectiveness of delivering behavioral health services in primary care, only 24 states cover the costs of collaborative care in their Medicaid programs. This study analyzes benchmark data from a behavioral health medical group embedded within primary care practices across the United States. By comparing Medicare, Medicaid, and privately insured populations, the study explores the effectiveness of collaborative care in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms, aiming to advocate for continued Medicaid fee adoption.
