Summary: Colorimetric gas sensors are widely used in hazardous gas detection, food freshness assessment, and gaseous biomarker identification due to their high sensitivity and selectivity, low cost, and good compatibility. However, their one-time discrete measurement design limits their application in continuous analytes monitoring. In this work, we proposed a novel sensor design to prolong the lifetime of colorimetric gas sensors by controlling the gas diffusion process. We compared two geometries and found that the 2-D gas diffusion geometry demonstrated better sensor performance.

Summary: The response of resistive In2O3-x sensing devices to different concentrations of NO2 under various operative conditions was investigated. The sensing layers were 150 nm thick films manufactured by oxygen-free room temperature magnetron sputtering deposition, which allowed for easy and fast manufacturing process while providing advantages in terms of gas sensing performances. The oxygen deficiency during growth created high densities of oxygen vacancies that facilitated NO2 absorption reactions on the surface and acted as donors in the bulk. The sensor exhibited a baseline resistance of kilohms and showed remarkable performances in terms of gas sensitivity.
