Summary: Analyzing the environmental occurrence of MP particles has received significant attention in the past decade, with a focus on effective risk assessment through accurate sampling and analysis methods. The choice of subsampling methods is crucial for reducing MP particle count errors, and increasing the fraction of MP particles in samples can help achieve lower errors.

Summary: This study investigates the biochemical changes and potential diagnostic use of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy in COVID-19 screening. It demonstrates that SARS-CoV-2 infection induces significant changes in culture supernatant and oral lavage samples, including aggregated proteins and RNA. The study also develops a predictive model for COVID-19 using saliva samples and highlights alterations in beta-sheet structures in secreted proteins as a common response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Summary: Infrared devices are increasingly used in various applications. This paper introduces a novel dispersive spectrometer that has high-throughput and decoupled spectral resolution. The proposed spectrometer utilizes a two-stage Hadamard transform encoding process to increase the signal-to-noise ratio. With a single-pixel detector, the system can be easily implemented in other desired wavelengths. Additionally, a method is developed to remove the need for uniform illumination and improve the ease of device design for in situ measurement.

Summary: Microtraces can be transferred between items involved in criminal activities and play a crucial role in establishing the chain of evidence. A common approach is needed to deal with the complexity and diversity of microtraces, and our study focused on handlebar grip materials as a representative microtrace. We developed a forensic strategy based on the manufacturing process and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and employed feature annealed independent rules (FAIR) and higher criticism thresholding (HC) combined with Fisher's discriminant (LDA) for automatic feature extraction.

Summary: By analyzing the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of ALS patients using FTIR spectroscopy, this study reveals significant changes in the molecular contents, including RNA, glutamate, carbohydrates, and key markers of lipid metabolism. These findings suggest that FTIR characterization of CSF could be a powerful tool for ALS diagnosis and provide insights into the pathophysiology of ALS.

Summary: The study found that olive cultivar significantly influences the physicochemical and sensory attributes of olive oil, with all four monovarietal oils meeting the legal thresholds for extra-virgin classification. Verdeal Transmontana oils had the highest oxidative stability, while Cobrancosa and Santulhana oils had the highest total phenols content.

Summary: The aim of this study is to investigate the hydration properties of glucose and its hydrogen bond network in glucose-water mixtures. The temperature behavior of these mixtures was characterized using Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectroscopy, specifically by analyzing the intramolecular OH stretching mode in the spectral range of 3000-3700 cm(-1) through the evaluation of Spectral Distance (SD). The results obtained were consistent with literature data, showing a maximum strength of the hydrogen bond network at a specific concentration value.

Summary: Biological materials found at a crime scene are crucial evidence for forensic investigation, as they can provide contextual information and be linked to donors through DNA analysis. Vibrational spectroscopy is increasingly being used in forensic biological analysis due to its non-destructive, rapid, and quantitative advantages. Chemometric techniques can extract reliable analytical results from complex spectral data, with promising applications in forensic biology and potential avenues for further research.
