Summary: This study examines the tradeoffs between increasing sample size and modifying cluster plot design factors for improving forest inventory precision. The findings suggest that the type and scale of spatial heterogeneity have significant implications for plot design choices, with homogeneous stands and landscapes being the least costly to inventory. Subplot area and count have a greater impact on cost efficiency than subplot separation, especially in landscapes with aggregated forest patterns and stands with homogeneous tree patterns.

Summary: This article describes the phenotypic differences in Schusterolejeunea inundata populations and proposes a new taxonomy. It introduces the newly elevated species Schusterolejeunea saxorum and considers Schusterolejeunea inundata var. fontinaloides as a distinct taxon. Detailed morphological descriptions, geographical distributions, and illustrations are provided for each taxon.

Summary: The Norton-Rice distribution (NRD) is a versatile distribution for estimating ordered distances from a random location to the k nearest objects. The proposed new PDE showed promising results in simulated probability sampling, but exhibited increased bias with smaller sample sizes. Despite advances in PDEs, achieving a globally least biased PDE remains challenging.

Summary: This study reports on the National Forest Inventory conducted by the Government of Papua New Guinea, which aims to assess and monitor the country's forests for various parameters including timber resources, greenhouse gas storage, and biodiversity. Stratified sampling and cluster plots were used to collect data on soil, tree and non-tree species, and various insects and birds.

Summary: The Natura 2000 protected area network is a key tool for the conservation of European biodiversity. A study in France showed that common bird populations are declining, but the decline is less steep within N2000 areas, especially for farmland specialists. Despite more diverse bird communities within N2000 areas, their ongoing functional biotic homogenization suggests a limited effectiveness of the network in reversing negative population trends. Improving management plans and expanding protected areas are suggested as priority actions to enhance the effectiveness of N2000.

Summary: The exploration in Mitaraka massif has led to the discovery of 218 new species, including 127 new to French Guiana. The observation data from the expedition have established Mitaraka as the area with the greatest entomological richness on the Guiana Shield. Recommendations for inventories include assigning a person per taxonomic group and deploying a variety of collecting strategies.
