Summary: The study focuses on designing cooling channels to improve the heat dissipation of epoxy-impregnated RP coils, making them more stable during quenching. Cooling and quench tests were conducted to investigate the impact of cooling channels on the thermal-quench characteristics of the coils, and the minimum quench energy and normal-zone propagation velocity of hotspots were discussed based on the test results.

Summary: This article discusses the methodology used for the thermal and electromagnetic design of a superconducting coil at the University of Western Macedonia in Greece. The design constraints and dimensions of the coil are determined using both electromagnetic finite element method and analytical equations. The cooling characteristics of the cryocooler are measured through initial experiments, and the cooling power is approximated using thermal finite element method. The behavior of the apparatus with the thermal load attached is known through further experiments. This methodology can be easily replicated by other researchers.

Summary: High temperature superconducting (HTS) synchronous machines are compact and light weight machines with higher torque to weight ratio, lower noise and better dynamic response, but face challenges in HTS field coil technology. Replacing 1G HTS field coils with 2G HTS field coils has the potential to significantly increase machine output capacity.

Summary: This paper studies the influence of different metal materials on the discharging process of high temperature superconductor (HTS) coils. The results show that higher electrical conductivity of the metal plates leads to better acceleration of current attenuation during the early stage of the discharging process. Copper with higher purity and silver are promising alternatives for metal plates, with silver being the best choice due to its highest electrical conductivity.

Summary: This paper presents a new perspective on measuring and modeling loss in superconducting coils over both short and long periods of time. It is found that AC losses have power-law relations with operating time and depend strongly on time, due to accumulated heat and interrelations between critical current and temperature in the coil. A new time-dependent analytical model accurately models real-time losses in the coil, matching tests over both short and long time periods.

Summary: The applications of high-Tc superconducting magnets are actively developed worldwide, requiring low resistance and convenient joint technologies for REBCO-coated conductors to reduce heat loads of cryocoolers and improve energy efficiency. Joint resistances of commercial REBCO-coated conductors were evaluated, with improvements in electrical connectivity showing potential for significant reduction in resistances. Demonstrations of quasi-persistent operation of REBCO-coated conductors with soldered joints in a conduction-cooled high-Tc superconducting magnet were successful, with induced current decay dependent on joint resistance.
