Summary: The study highlights the need for vocational rehabilitation programs to be incorporated into comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programs in order to identify individuals in need of support and to improve coordination of care across healthcare and social care sectors. This includes involving employers, healthcare professionals, and social workers in personalized return-to-work strategies.

Summary: This study explored physicians' experience with return-to-work coordinators (RTWCs) and identified factors influencing their collaboration or referral of patients to RTWCs in primary, orthopaedic, and psychiatric care clinics. The findings showed that physicians were more likely to collaborate with RTWCs and refer patients to them if they had a positive experience. They were also more likely to collaborate if they dealt with problematic sick-leave cases, patients with multiple diagnoses affecting work ability, and conflicts over sickness certification.

Summary: Returning to work and maintaining employment after cardiovascular disease is crucial for working-age individuals. Individuals with heart failure have the highest probability of not returning to work, highlighting the need for effective vocational rehabilitation strategies in comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programs.

Summary: From the perspective of patients, this study suggests that having more contacts with an RTWC is associated with perceiving more support in the return-to-work process. The involvement of an RTWC in designing a rehabilitation plan is also associated with perceiving more support and having a more positive emotional response to the RTWC.

Summary: Long-term sick leave is a significant issue in developed countries, but the effectiveness of work-related interventions for workers with different diagnoses in facilitating return to work remains uncertain. This systematic review aimed to assess the effects of such interventions and provide a foundation for future research. The results showed no conclusive evidence regarding the most effective intervention, highlighting the need for further studies.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the feasibility of using VR strategies for RTW in TBI patients and analyze the evaluation methods of these interventions and outcomes. A total of 23 studies that met the criteria were identified through literature search. The findings suggest a significant neglect of research on effective RTW approaches for TBI patients in the rehabilitation literature.

Summary: Self-employed individuals with cancer face unique challenges that have not been fully explored in previous research. A qualitative study was conducted in Canada to explore the experiences of 23 self-employed Canadians diagnosed with cancer, generating insights into the impact of cancer on their health, work, and businesses. The study revealed four major themes and twelve subthemes, providing valuable information for developing interventions to support this population.

Summary: The study found that digital RTW interventions were perceived as acceptable and aligned with participant values. Participants expressed a desire for access to support at any time and any place, but also expressed concerns about a decrease in social interactions impacting their return-to-work opportunities. They suggested that digital solutions should reduce cognitive effort requirements.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the association between fear avoidance and return to work-related activity (RTW) 6-9 months after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). The results showed that pervasive and persistent avoidance of symptom triggers were associated with lower rates of RTW. Further research is needed to understand the transition points of fear avoidance behaviors during the recovery process after mTBI.

Summary: The study found that the conversion rate of fixed-term disability pensions in Finland is decreasing, while the rate of return to work is increasing. However, many individuals end up in unemployment, and the number of people continuing to receive fixed-term disability pensions for more than four years has also increased.

Summary: The study examined the role of motivation in sick-disabled patients using a dimensional approach based on the self-determination theory. Results showed that patients with highly controlled motivation were more prevalent and predicted a longer time before returning to work. Interestingly, there was no significant relationship between health care provider estimations and controlled motivation.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a new classification for scores of the Modified Spinal Function Sort (M-SFS) related to the level of physical work demands and to test its predictive value. Results showed that M-SFS scores can be classified into four levels of physical work demands, and patients with MSD have a higher probability of returning to work after rehabilitation if their perceived work capacity matches or exceeds the level of physical work demands.

Summary: The study aimed to identify patient-related characteristics affecting the predictive validity of the FCE assessment ELA. Valid ELA outcomes were associated with moderate or strong pain-related disability at work, psychosocial distress, non-national language, and expected but delayed return to work. Conversely, factors like age, employment status, fear-avoidance beliefs, and physical work demands did not impact ELA's predictive validity.

Summary: The study examines the impact of a one-week health program offered by the Social Insurance for Agriculture, Forestry, and Horticulture (SVLFG) on the well-being of parents of children with high level of care. The results show that the intervention has a clear initial effect and leads to sustained improvement in acceptance of the care situation, institutional support, and recreational behavior. The intervention is unique in the German social insurance system and shows potential for long-term prevention-oriented support.

Summary: Informal caregivers are a crucial part of nursing care but can also be vulnerable. This study aimed to develop a multiday, inpatient health care program for informal caregivers and their care tandem. The core intervention was an 8-day inpatient program with various activities, followed by aftercare including telephone counseling. Results suggest that the nursing tandem targets a group with high emotional attachment. Organizational aspects regarding proximity between caregivers and care recipients were identified as critical. Limited data on participant interest provided practical guidance for the program.
