Summary: The study investigated the quantitative colonization of Fusarium virguliforme in corn and soybean roots under different tillage and residue management practices. Results showed that tillage practices had inconsistent effects on F. virguliforme root colonization and sudden death syndrome foliar symptoms, while residue management did not alter root colonization of corn or soybean by F. virguliforme.

Summary: This study compared the genome assemblies of four F. virguliforme strains and identified 29 informative microsatellite markers. Genetic diversity and population structure of 90 strains from Argentina and the USA were analyzed using 16 of these markers. The analysis revealed a total of 37 multilocus genotypes, with 10 genotypes in Argentina and 26 genotypes in the USA. The multilocus genotypes were further grouped into three clusters, suggesting distinct genetic relationships among the strains.

Summary: In this study, zinc and copper oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using hemp leaves and their antifungal potential against Fusarium virguliforme in soybean was evaluated. Hemp was chosen due to its abundance of secondary metabolites that can enhance nanoparticle reactivity. The biologically synthesized nanoparticles showed similar properties to their chemically synthesized counterparts, indicating the stabilizing role of hemp-derived biomolecules. Application of the nanoparticles on soybeans significantly improved plant growth, nutrient content, and photosynthetic indicators, while also enhancing disease resistance against the fungal pathogen.

Summary: Non-cereal crops have been displaced in European cropping systems, leading to a dependency on imported soybean. Continuous maize cropping under Mediterranean irrigated conditions can cause agronomic and environmental problems. This study evaluated diversified Mediterranean irrigated cropping systems to maximize protein production and reduce synthetic N fertilizer use. Introducing soybean as a double crop following barley proved to be a successful strategy in increasing protein production and reducing environmental impacts.

Summary: This study aimed to detect the presence of Fusarium proliferatum on garlic bulbs postharvest during prolonged storage, and to identify other fungal species associated with garlic dry rot. The results showed that dry rot incidence slightly increased during cold storage, while F. proliferatum was able to produce fumonisins even with stable incidence during this period. Symptomatic cloves had higher contamination levels by the fungus and the toxin compared to asymptomatic cloves.
