The saturable absorption properties of molybdenum tungsten disulfide (MoWS2) near 1.6 mu m were investigated. Passively Q-switched Er:YAG laser at 1645 nm with a home-made MoWS2 as saturable absorber was realized. Under an absorbed pump power of 10.75 W, a maximum average output power of 1.62 W was achieved with a pulse duration of 1 mu s at a repetition rate of 43 kHz, corresponding to a pulse energy of 37.7 mu J.
