Summary: The research demonstrates that grape seed proanthocyanidin extract can ameliorate IR-induced HSPC injury by upregulating the expression of Foxo1 and its target antioxidant genes, thereby reducing ROS production and DNA damage while increasing HSC reconstituting ability and survival in irradiated mice.

Summary: In this study, we found that dietary antioxidant esculin can protect human erythrocytes from oxidative damage caused by the insecticide bioallethrin. Bioallethrin induced oxidative stress, resulting in increased oxidative proteins and lipids, decreased amino groups and reduced to oxidized glutathione ratio in erythrocytes. It also increased the generation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, altered plasma membrane integrity, oxidized hemoglobin, and affected antioxidant enzyme activities and redox system. However, pretreatment with esculin significantly restored these parameters in a concentration-dependent manner. Therefore, esculin can be an effective chemoprotectant against xenobiotic-induced toxicity in human erythrocytes.

Summary: Grape seed proanthocyanidin (GSPE), a natural polyphenolic compound, has a protective effect on the liver against high-fat diet-induced damage and regulates lipid metabolic parameters. It achieves this by up-regulating the Wnt3a/β-catenin signaling pathway, inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress and hepatocyte apoptosis.

Summary: The study reports a direct fabrication strategy towards polyphenol nanoparticles with tunable size, excellent biocompatibility, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging capacities from grape seed via an enzymatic polymerization method. The resulting nanoparticles can efficiently prevent cell damage from ROS and exert promising in vivo antioxidant therapeutic effects on several oxidative stress-related diseases. This research can stimulate the development of more kinds of low-cost, safe, and efficient biomass-based antioxidative nanomaterials via similar fabrication methodologies.

Summary: Disruptions of the light/dark cycle and unhealthy diets can lead to oxidative stress. Grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) has antioxidant properties and has shown positive effects in regulating circadian disruptions. This study examined the impact of GSPE administration on the liver oxidant system of rats undergoing a sudden photoperiod shift. The results indicate that GSPE improved the antioxidant response under specific photoperiod conditions, suggesting its potential in treating circadian-related disorders.

Summary: Polyphenols play a key role in regulating circadian rhythms, while the cafeteria diet disrupts liver biological rhythm and increases ROS production. This study investigated the effects of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) on restoring the antioxidant balance and circadian rhythm in rats fed a cafeteria diet. GSPE treatment recovered the disrupted circadian rhythm, increased the peak expression of Sod1, and corrected altered hepatic metabolites. The timing of GSPE administration also showed a chronotherapeutic effect on its antioxidant properties.

Summary: Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal with no physiological role in the human body. Vanillin, a plant phenolic aldehyde and antioxidant, has been found to alleviate the toxicity of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) by reducing the generation of reactive species, preventing heme degradation and oxidation, and enhancing erythrocyte antioxidant capacity. Vanillin can potentially be used as a chemoprotectant against the damaging effects of cadmium.

Summary: The study found that naringenin can protect testes from cadmium-induced toxicity by improving body weight, relative testis weights, sperm quality, and reducing testicular damage. It also restores antioxidant enzyme activities and levels, suppresses autophagy, and downregulates the expression of related proteins like P62 and LC3 II.

Summary: This study investigated the toxic effects of potassium bromate on Allium cepa L. and tested the reducing effects of grape seed extract (GSE). The results showed that potassium bromate exposure caused decreases in physiological parameters and abnormalities in cell genetic indicators, disrupting the antioxidant/oxidant balance. GSE administration reduced the toxic effects of potassium bromate and improved the examined parameters.
