Summary: This study aimed to identify determinants of urinary concentrations of the herbicides glyphosate and glufosinate and their metabolites in pregnancy. The results showed that the majority of pregnant women had detectable concentrations of glyphosate and its metabolite, while the detection rates of glufosinate and its metabolite were relatively low. The consumption of grain products showed a dose-response relationship with glyphosate concentration, indicating diet as the main route of exposure.

Summary: The foliar application of silicon, either as bulk or nano forms, was found to enhance Solanum lycopersicum L. tolerance to glyphosate by reducing oxidative stress and upregulating antioxidant enzymes. Both sources of silicon showed potential in alleviating glyphosate-induced toxicity, with no significant differences in efficacy observed.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs) exposure on placental development in vivo during pregnancy in mice. The results showed that GBHs administration led to increased resorption of fetuses, decreased fetal and placental weight, inhibited placental growth, and altered expression of related proteins and genes. Further study revealed that GBHs exposure induced oxidative stress in placental tissue. In conclusion, maternal exposure to GBHs can impair placental development through the activation of endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated signaling pathway.

Summary: This study investigated the toxicity of glyphosate and the protective effects of bitter melon extract (Bmex) in Allium cepa test material. The results showed that glyphosate caused various toxic effects on A. cepa, including decreased physiological parameters and increased cytogenetic and biochemical parameters as well as anatomical damage. However, co-administration of Bmex reduced the toxicity of glyphosate and improved all examined parameters significantly.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of soil organic matter (OM) in preventing glyphosate (GLY) phytotoxicity on tomato plants. The results suggest that soils with higher OM content (10% and 15%) can mitigate the non-target phytotoxicity of GLY, possibly by decreasing herbicide bioavailability and/or stimulating defense mechanisms, thereby improving crop growth and physiological performance.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of maternal exposure to low and high concentration glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs) on the intestinal health of offspring, and proposed the protective mechanism mediated by betaine. The results showed that high concentration GBHs damaged the intestinal morphology and barrier function of suckling piglets. Additionally, GBHs exposure activated antioxidant signaling pathway and induced endoplasmic reticulum stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, while betaine supplementation provided some protection against GBHs-induced intestinal damage.

Summary: This study examines the impact of glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide, on young adults and finds that it is associated with metabolic syndrome and elevated liver transaminases. The concentration of AMPA in urine is related to these conditions. Childhood exposure to glyphosate and AMPA may increase the risk of liver and cardiometabolic disorders in early adulthood, leading to more serious diseases later in life.

Summary: The wide-scale emergence of glyphosate-resistant weeds has caused an increase in the application of herbicide mixtures containing glyphosate plus dicamba or glyphosate plus 2,4-D. This raises concerns about the environmental and health risks from exposure to a mixture of herbicide active ingredients. The study evaluated the hepatotoxic effects of perinatal exposure to glyphosate alone or in combination with 2,4-D and dicamba on Wistar rats. The findings highlight the importance of assessing the combined effects of chemical pollutants at safe individual doses.
