Summary: aPLs were detected in nearly half of patients with COVID-19, and higher prevalence of aPL was found in severe disease. However, there was no association between aPL positivity and disease outcomes including thrombosis, invasive ventilation and mortality. Further studies are required to identify the clinical and pathological role of aPL in COVID-19.

Summary: This study found an inverse correlation between Helicobacter pylori infection with gastric inflammation and high titers of neutralizing antibodies to poliovirus in children who experienced sub-clinical infection during a poliovirus outbreak in Israel.

Summary: The study revealed that approximately 80% of patients with persistently antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) positive remained stable in their aPL profiles over a 5-year follow-up period. Additionally, the decrease in triple aPL positivity at baseline was associated with increased odds of stable aPL profile.

Summary: Positive APLA serology was associated with more severe disease regardless of COVID-19 status, with IgG aCL strongly associated with worse disease severity and higher ANA titres regardless of COVID-19 status.

Summary: Mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, stroke-like episodes, and other features (MELAS syndrome) are characterized by a rare condition caused by mutations in maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA. This article reports a case of a patient with MELAS and a potential Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APLAS). The patient presented with neurologic symptoms at different time points and was diagnosed with MELAS and APLAS based on laboratory and imaging studies.

Summary: This study evaluated the epidemiological characteristics of pediatric gastritis, and the results showed a high incidence of Helicobacter pylori infection, especially in teenagers. Therefore, extensive prevention and treatment programs are needed.

Summary: The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori resistance to clarithromycin, metronidazole, and levofloxacin was high in children in Chongqing, China. The A2143G mutation was detected in most clarithromycin-resistant strains, and Asn87 and Asp91 mutations in the gyrA gene were common in levofloxacin-resistant strains. Individualized anti-H. pylori therapy should be based on susceptibility testing.

Summary: This study compared the influence of aPLs on global and cardiovascular damage in patients with SLE diagnosed before and after the year 2000. The results showed that the effects of aPL on damage accrual in SLE patients have been reduced over recent years, possibly due to the widespread use of HCQ and improved thromboprophylaxis.

Summary: A study found that different profiles of antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) are associated with the clinical manifestations of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), particularly higher levels of anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) and anti -b2 glycoprotein-I antibody (ab2GPI). The study also identified overlapping antibody detection methods and proposed a calculation method to assess the overall burden of aPL.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of anticardiolipin antibodies (ACLs) in patients with COVID-19, as well as its correlation with laboratory coagulation variables. The results showed that the prevalence and levels of ACLs were significantly higher in critically ill patients compared to non-critically ill patients. Correlation analysis revealed a weak correlation between ACLs-IgG and activated partial thromboplastin time, as well as thrombin time. However, ACLs do not seem to have a clear correlation with thrombosis occurred in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: Antiphospholipid antibodies are common in autoimmune diseases and associated with thromboembolic events, a major cause of cancer-related death. A study found that anticardiolipin antibodies were significantly more prevalent and had higher levels in cancer patients compared to healthy controls. Lung cancer patients had a 100% positivity rate, and colon cancer patients also had a higher rate of positivity.

Summary: Elevated serum calprotectin levels are significantly associated with severe cases of COVID-19, whereas the prevalence of clinically significant aPL did not differ. The link between the inflammatory pathway and calprotectin in COVID-19 may contribute to improved management and outcomes for patients.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the risk of congenital malformations in offspring born to women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The study found that neonates born to SLE mothers have a slightly increased risk of congenital malformations affecting the nervous system, head and neck, cardiovascular system, and musculoskeletal system compared to the general population.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the outcomes of pregnancies in aPL-positive patients, revealing that 27% of pregnancies resulted in early pregnancy loss before 10 weeks, while 23% of the remaining 40 pregnancies had composite outcomes related to aPL.
