Summary: This study investigated the role of PIMT in pancreatic beta cells and found that under hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic conditions, PIMT levels were reduced along with key beta cell markers. Additionally, high-fat diet led to decreased PIMT levels in pancreatic islets. Further analysis revealed that PIMT depletion resulted in the attenuation of key genes involved in insulin secretion pathway. PIMT ablation in beta cells caused a decrease in protein levels of PDX1 and MafA, resulting in reduced glucose-stimulated insulin secretion.

Summary: Maternal diabetes is associated with increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. Hyperglycemia alters expression of genes and microRNAs in neural stem cells, including downregulation of methyl-CpG-binding protein-2 (Mecp2). miR-26b-5p controls Mecp2 expression and affects neurite outgrowth and synaptogenesis. These findings suggest that maternal diabetes disrupts synaptogenesis through miR-26b-5p/Mecp2 pathway, potentially leading to neurodevelopmental disorders.

Summary: Researchers studying diabetic retinopathy (DR) have become interested in the catabolic process of autophagy, but its role and molecular mechanism in DR are still unclear. In this study, an in vivo diabetic rat model and in vitro hyperglycemic-exposed retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell cultures were used to mimic early DR. It was found that miR-19a-3p upregulation inhibits aberrant autophagy by directly targeting PTEN, thus protecting RPE cells against DR damage.

Summary: The zinc coordination complex ZnMD, synthesized in this study, showed promising effects in treating hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. It was more effective than the antihypertensive drug MD in reducing blood pressure and preventing myocardial hypertrophy. ZnMD also exhibited protective effects on the heart by reducing oxidative damage and regulating the expression of oxidative enzymes. These findings suggest that ZnMD has the potential to be developed as a therapeutic drug for hypertension and cardiac dysfunction.

Summary: This study investigates the neuro effects of lanthanides on different brain areas in rats and finds that they can distribute and accumulate in various brain regions. Treatment with cerium nanoparticles or lanthanum causes a significant decrease in norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and GABA, accompanied by a significant increase in 5-hydroxyl indoleacetic acid levels. Moreover, cerium nanoparticles exhibit high activity in scavenging free radicals.
