Summary: Surface potential, a key electrochemical property in colloid studies, is explored in this study for montmorillonite particles considering specific ion effects. The aggregation process of montmorillonite particles exhibited remarkable specific ion effects, and the fluctuation coefficient beta was introduced to quantify the strength of specific ion effects. The findings provide insights for obtaining reliable surface potentials of charged particles in different electrolyte environments.

Summary: Currently, area is one of the main bottlenecks hindering the development of EDA. The area optimization for XNOR/OR-based fixed polarity Reed-Muller (FPRM) circuits aims to find an FPRM circuit with the minimum area. We propose an adaptive bacterial foraging algorithm based on tabu search (ABFA-TS) and a hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) based on the nearest neighbor to solve the problem of area optimization. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in reducing the circuit area.

Summary: The study examined the influence of eluents with varying types of salts and surfactants on the retention behavior of two model analytes, revealing that increasing electrolyte concentration leads to longer elution times, while the retention order of different electrolyte cations depends on the surfactant.

Summary: This paper explores the influence of various external forces on the radiation effect of charged particles, focusing on the example of an electron in a magnetic field. The study considers the anomalous magnetic moment and possible violation of Lorentz invariance, and calculates the synchrotron radiation characteristics. The presence of an electromagnetic wave and the inhomogeneity of the magnetic field are also taken into account in the calculation of stimulated synchrotron radiation. The paper also proposes a method to calculate synchrotron radiation in real circumstances without approximating the radiative amplitudes themselves.

Summary: This study investigated the fretting fatigue mechanism of WC-12Co coating through experiments and simulations, and established a prediction model. The results showed that the fretting fatigue cracks of the coating mainly originated from the edges of wear pits and were influenced by external load and friction coefficient.

Summary: The study shows that there is a relationship between peer companies' usage level of HRM systems and that of a focal company, with the usage level of HRM systems in peer companies affecting the adoption and effects of HRM systems in the focal company. When the adoption level of HRM systems is low in peer companies, the focal company's usage of HRM systems is more likely to enhance financial performance; however, when the adoption level of HRM systems is high in peer companies, the focal company is more likely to receive employer certifications.

Summary: The paper presents experimental research results on the operation features of prestressed shells considering the temperature load effect. It is found that as the temperature load on the structure increases, the degree of tension in the prestressed structure decreases. According to the research, the stress state of the prestressed shell decreased from 25% to 100% with a change in temperature loads, depending on the temperature gradient.

Summary: Regional flood estimation is an important issue in hydrology, and event simulation-based approaches are suitable for addressing it. However, few methods have been regionalized at a large scale and consider the seasonality of hydrological parameters. This study discusses several configurations that consider the seasonality of rainfall and hydrological parameters and tests them on catchments throughout France. Results show that calibrating parameters based on seasonal flow quantiles improves the estimation of flood frequency and that the seasonality of hydrological parameters is worth considering.

Summary: Cultural landscapes play an important role in ecological restoration. Current research focuses mainly on Europe and North America, with a need for more attention to tropical regions. Adopting a transdisciplinary approach can enhance restoration efforts and address issues of land use and stakeholder engagement.

Summary: The design of shell-and-tube heat exchangers is typically based on standards, best practices, and experience. However, this may not always result in an optimal design. This paper proposes a method to evaluate the total cost of ownership of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger considering uniform corrosion and corrosion fouling. The results show that using a corroding material can lower the cost as long as the corrosion rate does not exceed a certain threshold.

Summary: We propose a new reasoning paradigm for abstract argumentation frameworks that takes into account the who said what relation and the trustworthiness of agents. We extend traditional reasoning based on verification and acceptance problems and investigate how the robustness of a set of arguments or an argument can change when the claims of some agents are ignored. We address the problems of finding the minimum extent of agent removal that makes a set an extension or an argument accepted.

Summary: The paper investigates the behavior of circular cylindrical shells partially filled with an ideal liquid under external and internal hydrostatic pressure. The study is based on the classical nonlinear theory of shells and uses a semi-analytical version of the finite element method to solve the problem. The paper analyzes the influence of the level of fluid in the shell on the critical values of external pressure, with and without considering gravitational effects, showing that the gravitational field can significantly affect the dynamic characteristics of the structure under certain geometrical parameters.

Summary: Classifying patient biomarker trajectories into groups is common in clinical research. Mixed effects classification models are used to capture the heterogeneity of longitudinal data. This article proposes a stochastic version of the expectation maximization algorithm, called SEM, to account for classification uncertainties. It was shown to provide accurate coverage probabilities of confidence intervals in simulations and identified patient groups in a trial comparing low vs standard cyclosporine A doses after cardiac transplantation.
