Summary: This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting frailty in older adults and the moderating effects of nutritional status on frailty. In malnourished older adults, depression, SPPB scores, and cognitive function were closely related to increasing age. Malnourished older adults are more likely to suffer from physical impairment, lower cognitive function, and frailty.

Summary: Extending disability-free life expectancy is crucial for optimizing active aging and reducing healthcare costs. Pragmatic and personalized prevention strategies, such as exercise interventions and nutrition support, are effective in preventing frailty and improving quality of life. Implementing multimodal programs in real-life settings requires tailored interventions and refined behavioral strategies.

Summary: This population-based retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the incidence rates of frailty among community-dwelling older veterans. Results showed a high incidence of frailty in this population, with frailty being associated with higher all-cause mortality. Future studies should focus on identifying and implementing interventions to prevent or reduce frailty-related complications in this population.

Summary: Considering Korea's aging population, this study evaluated the impact of a senior-friendly diet on the nutrition and health status of older adults receiving community care. The intervention group showed significant improvements in energy, protein, and vitamin intake, as well as frailty levels and malnutrition rates. Resolving meals based on the physiological needs of older adults is crucial for improving their quality of life in a super-aged society.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the prevalence of nutritional risk identified by SCREEN II and MNA-SF among community-dwelling seniors in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The results suggest that MNA-SF may have a limited role in nutritional risk screening, while SCREEN II shows promising results in terms of validity. Further studies are needed to validate these findings.

Summary: Preventive nutritional management of frailty may reduce adverse health-related outcomes in older adults. A novel measure combining physical frailty with nutritional imbalance, known as nutritional frailty, was found to be a better predictor of all-cause mortality compared to physical frailty alone or cognitive frailty.

Summary: This study utilized machine learning methods to identify factors contributing to the early trajectory from good health to pre-frailty in middle aged and older adults. Physiological, social, and lifestyle variables were found to be associated with pre-frailty outcomes. Machine learning models indicated that high BMI, low muscle mass, poor grip strength and balance, emotional distress, poor sleep quality were linked to pre-frailty.

Summary: Anorexia of ageing is common in older individuals and can contribute to sarcopenia. This study found differences in gut microbiota composition between healthy older adults with good and poor appetite, as well as a trend of reduced muscle strength in individuals with poor appetite. Further research is needed to understand the causal relationship and potential interventions targeting the gut microbiota for anorexia of ageing and sarcopenia.

Summary: Nutritional advice is more effective than exercise in reducing body weight and fat mass in frail, obese older adults, as well as enhancing physical function and psychosocial well-being. However, it is less effective in increasing muscle strength and preventing lean mass loss compared to exercise or combined interventions.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of osteosarcopenia in the over 60-year-old community and found that osteosarcopenia is a relatively common disease group in older adults, which may lead to deterioration of health outcomes. Therefore, management of both osteopenia and sarcopenia in older adults should occur together.

Summary: Frailty in older adults, especially when combined with other health domains such as cognitive, psychological, and social aspects, can predict adverse outcomes including institutionalization and mortality. The risk of negative health outcomes increases with frailty in a higher number of domains, and specific combinations of frailty domains have varying effects on outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to identify trajectories of multimorbidity in older adults prior to receiving long-term care benefits and demonstrate their value in predicting mortality. Results showed three patterns of multimorbidity trajectories over a 10-year period: consistently low morbidity, abrupt increase in morbidity, and gradual increase in morbidity. Those with high-risk trajectories had higher mortality rates compared to those with low morbidity.
