Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) has received considerable attention given its diverse applications, and the preparation of new luminophores remains interesting. Herein we report the synthesis of porous organic polymers containing bipyridine units that can coordinate ruthenium(II) and iridium(III) to form metallated porous organic polymers (MPOPs). We studied electrochemical behaviour and ECL of two MPOPs in the presence of tri-n-propylamine (TPrA) as the co-reactant. They generated ECL at 655 nm and 620 nm upon anodic polarization. The mechanism of ECL generation was investigated by dynamic ECL spooling spectroscopy. Considering MPOPs possess abundant pores, we believe they are potential in the fabrication of solid-state ECL sensors.
