Summary: This study investigated the use of recycled glass (RG) as a replacement for river sand in cement-based materials, with rice husk ash (RHA) added as an eco-friendly mineral admixture. While RG incorporation reduced strength and increased water absorption, the addition of RHA improved mechanical properties and durability of the mortar.

Summary: The use of glass sand and rice husk ash in concrete production saves natural sand resources and promotes waste recycling. The pozzolanic effect of rice husk ash reduces the alkali-silica reaction caused by glass sand and cement slurry. The addition of glass sand improves tensile strength and cyclic compression performance, while rice husk ash enhances compressive and splitting tensile strength.

Summary: The present study evaluated the influence of earthworm, Cyanobacteria, and rice husk biochar on cadmium detoxification in contaminated soil. The results showed that BC-assisted treatments had a substantial amount of cadmium removal compared to the negative control. Earthworm metallothionein protein played a key role in the detoxification process, and microbial communities and humic substances aided in soil remediation.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of rice hush ash (RHA) with different particle sizes on the autogenous shrinkage and hydration properties of cement pastes. The water absorption and release behavior of RHA in cement pastes were characterized using 1H nuclear magnetic resonance. The addition of RHA reduces the development of self-desiccation and mitigates autogenous shrinkage, while enhancing early-age compressive strength and improving long-term strength by promoting hydration and forming a dense interfacial transition zone.

Summary: The study evaluated the removal of Cd (II) ions by rice husk biochar as an adsorbent. Activated biochar was prepared using the physicochemical activation method with parameters such as chemical impregnation, pyrolysis temperature, and pyrolysis time investigated. The experimental results showed that factors like pyrolysis temperature and impregnation ratio influenced the biochar yield and its ability to remove cadmium ions.

Summary: This study investigated how pre-wheat sulfur application influences cadmium uptake in rice under wheat-rice rotation. Results showed that Cd accumulation in brown rice peaked at 60 mg S kg(-1), with higher levels increasing Cd concentrations in brown rice due to sulfur-induced effects on soil pore water sulfate and leaf S promoting Cd translocation. However, brown rice Cd decreased at 120 mg S kg(-1) due to low Cd solubility and inhibited Cd uptake from root and leaf S uptake. Thus, applying S-containing fertilizers to Cd-contaminated paddy soils is not recommended.

Summary: Arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) are toxins that can be reduced in rice by incorporating rice husk residues into the soil. Rice husks contain silicon (Si) which can decrease As uptake and promote As methylation in the soil. The charring of rice husk can also decrease Cd availability through various mechanisms. The dissolution rate of Si and adsorption of Cd and dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) from biocharpyrolyzed at different temperatures showed variations.

Summary: Flue gas cadmium is a persistent and toxic pollutant that can pose a threat to human health and the environment. A study investigated the use of a sulfate reducing membrane biofilm reactor (MBfR) for removing cadmium from flue gas. The reactor achieved a high removal efficiency of 95.1% and Desulfovibrio was found to be the dominant genus. The biofilm formation involved the conversion of cadmium into cadmium sulfide (CdS) and complexation with humic acids, resulting in bio-stabilization of the cadmium-containing flue gas.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of combined biochar and sulfur application on Cd resistance in rice. The results showed that this combination significantly reduced the Cd content in rice roots and shoots, and altered the accumulation and release of secondary metabolites. It was found that iron plaque and heavy metal transport genes played important roles in the detoxification of rice under this combined treatment.

Summary: Chlorite (ClO2-) is a by-product of water treatment using chlorine dioxide (ClO2) and can be activated by iron species (Fe-b) for selective oxidative treatment of organic contaminants. This study discovered the mechanisms behind this activation process and proposed a unified coordination catalysis mechanism. The findings provide a novel strategy for water treatment and waste disposal.

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The study finds that social interaction increases the likelihood of farmers adopting SWC, and internet use moderates this effect. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
