Breaking the progression from endothelial dysfunction to cardiovascular complications is clinically important in dyslipidemia patients. Lipid-lowering therapy improves endothelial function in dyslipidemia patients. The relationships of components of a lipid profile with endothelial function, such as LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, are complex. This review focuses on exploring their roles.

Summary: The study found that elevated total cholesterol, LDL-c, and non-HDL-c were related to the incidence of hypertension in Chinese adult males. Triglycerides, however, were not significantly associated. After adjusting for BMI, the relationship between HDL-c and hypertension shifted from no association to a positive correlation. The BN model showed that age, BMI, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and total cholesterol were strongly associated with hypertension incidence.

Summary: Atherogenic dyslipidemia is associated with carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV), and there is a linear association between triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and the triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL-C) ratio with arterial stiffness. HDL-C has a stronger association with arterial stiffness, while the association of TG/HDL-C with arterial stiffness is dependent on HDL-C levels.

Summary: NFAT is a widely expressed transcriptional activator that is involved in regulating the immune system, heart and brain development, and mediating pathological processes such as cardiac hypertrophy. Oxidative stress, characterized by excessive production of reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial dysfunction, calcium overload, and subsequent lipid peroxidation, inflammation, and apoptosis, is associated with various pathological processes. Calcium overload activates NFAT through the calcium-calcineurin pathway, which is the main regulatory mode of NFAT factors. This review focuses on the effects of NFAT transcription factors on reactive oxygen species production, calcium overload, mitochondrial dysfunction, redox reactions, lipid peroxidation, inflammation, and apoptosis in response to oxidative stress. The aim is to provide a reference for understanding the functions and characteristics of NFAT in different stages of oxidative stress and related potential targets.
