Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) on graft failure after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The results showed that graft failure rates were significantly higher in vessels with negative iFR (>0.89) compared to those with positive iFR (<0.89).

Summary: This study proposed a high-fidelity geometric multiscale model (HFMM) to characterize coronary pressure and flow under the resting state, aiming to better predict myocardial ischemia using CT-iFR. Through prospective enrollment of 57 patients, it was found that CT-iFR had greater accuracy in identifying myocardial ischemia compared to CCTA and CT-FFR. Furthermore, the computational time of CT-iFR was faster.

Summary: The study aimed to predict wedge pressure using wave separation analysis and investigate its impact on FFR and iFR. Results showed high correlations between FFR and reconstructed FFR, as well as between iFR and reconstructed iFR. This suggests that FFR and iFR can be expressed as variations in trans-stenotic forward pressure derived from the same formula.

Summary: This international multicenter study evaluated the use of iFR in assessing angiographically intermediate LMCD. Results showed that an iFR of <= 0.89 correlates with intravascular ultrasound minimum lumen area <6 mm(2), regardless of body surface area. The study supports the use of iFR for the evaluation of intermediate LMCD.

Summary: This systematic review examines the role of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations in the assessment of anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery (AAOCA). The review found that CFD simulations offer a noninvasive alternative for patient-specific hemodynamic analysis in AAOCA. However, both dedicated and general-purpose CFD models have limitations and further research is needed to accurately simulate the pathophysiological changes in AAOCA.

Summary: The effect of aging on coronary stenosis functional assessment with FFR and iFR was investigated. FFR values increased with age, while iFR values remained unchanged. In patients over 60 years old, revascularization deferral based on FFR, along with abnormal iFR and CFR values, was associated with worse long-term patient outcomes.

Summary: This study focuses on addressing the unphysical velocity oscillations at the free surface in the two-phase solution procedure of OpenFOAM. The proposed method, named Direct Surface Description (DSD), imposes boundary conditions directly on the free surface to improve the accuracy of wave-induced load estimation. The implementation of the DSD method in OpenFOAM is validated and compared to existing solution methods, showing promising results in accurately predicting free surface kinematics and simulating complex and realistic cases.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) shape indices on local hemodynamics using the response surface method (RSM) and validated the regression models. The results indicated that aneurysm diameter is the main determining factor in thrombotic risk, and cases with shorter length experienced flow stagnation.

Summary: This prospective study used computational fluid dynamics to investigate how graft hemodynamics may vary among different types of grafts one month after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The study found differences in abnormal wall shear stress area among different types of grafts, suggesting a possible influence on long-term graft failure rates.

Summary: This study compared the novel method of Quantitative Flow Ratio (QFR) with the established invasive measurements of coronary blood flow using Instantaneous Wave-free Ratio (iFR) or Resting Full-cycle Ratio (RFR) in daily cathlab routine. The results showed a significant correlation between QFR and iFR or RFR, with QFR measurement requiring less time and lower radiation dose.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between wall shear stress (WSS), functionally significant epicardial coronary stenoses, and microcirculatory dysfunction. The results showed that fractional flow reserve and instantaneous wave-free ratio independently predicted the total burden of low WSS and maximum lesion WSS in coronary arteries, while microcirculatory dysfunction was not associated with WSS.

Summary: Traditional EECP treatment for coronary heart disease patients focuses solely on blood pressure values, but long-term application leads to improved hemodynamic environment around coronary arteries. Studies have shown that increasing pressure amplitude and pressurization duration during counterpulsation can enhance coronary blood flow and reduce wall shear stress, with duration being the predominant factor.

Summary: This study explored the role of hemodynamic factors in the occurrence of superior mesenteric artery dissection (SMAD) and identified histopathologic changes in the artery wall using a fluid-structure interaction simulation method. The results showed that increased aortomesenteric angle and SMA curvature were risk factors for SMAD, causing local hemodynamic abnormalities and histopathologic changes in the anterior wall of the SMA.
