Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different extraction methods on the yield, chemical structures and antioxidant activity of Dictyo-phora indusiata polysaccharides. The results showed that ultrasonic-microwave-assisted extraction (UMAE) had the greatest damage to the cell wall of the polysaccharides and the best comprehensive antioxidant capacity. Different extraction methods had no significant effect on the types of glycosidic bonds and sugar rings, but there were differences in absolute molecular weight and molecular conformation. UMAE had the highest polysaccharides yield, indicating its potential for modification and application in the functional food industry.

Summary: A Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology is used to optimize ultrasonic-assisted extraction conditions for Ophiopogon japonicus polysaccharides. The optimized conditions are a liquid-solid ratio of 22:1 mL g(-1), ultrasonic time of 27 min, and ultrasonic power of 200 W. Under these conditions, the extraction yield is significantly increased compared to distilled water leaching extraction. Additionally, one of the eluting fractions, SPs-1, exhibits high inhibitory activities and scavenging activities, making it a potential ingredient for anti-hyperglycemic pharmaceutical formulation and antioxidant in functional foods.

Summary: The study optimized the extraction of polysaccharides from coix seeds using response surface methodology with ultrasound as an auxiliary method. The results showed that ultrasound extraction led to higher polysaccharide content and lower molecular weight compared to hot water extraction. Further analysis revealed that the polysaccharides extracted by ultrasound were mainly neutral polysaccharides, with CSP-A showing more resistance to digestion in the stomach and intestine.

Summary: Microwave-assisted enzymatic extraction (MAEE) was used to separate polysaccharides from micro-Chlorella. The extraction conditions were optimized using Box-Behnken design and response surface methodology. The optimal condition for extracting crude polysaccharides (CSCP) from Chlorella sp. was found to be at 50 degrees C for 2.3 h with 380 W of microwave power and 0.31% of enzyme dosage. The extraction yield of CSCP reached 0.72% under these conditions. Additionally, the modification conditions with α-amylase were optimized, and the enzyme-modified CSCP showed a typical heteropolysaccharide composition.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

Summary: The potential of multi-layer nanoemulsions for improving the cellular uptake, antioxidant activity, and in vitro bioaccessibility of alpha-tocopherol was examined. The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
