Summary: The study found that among alternative screening methods, computed tomographic colonography every 5 years, annual mSEPT9, and annual multi-target stool DNA screening are the most cost-effective choices. However, these alternative tests are not cost-effective compared to FIT and colonoscopy.

Summary: This network meta-analysis identified early feeding as the most efficacious therapeutic intervention to reduce post-operative ileus in patients undergoing colorectal surgery, in addition to highlighting other therapies that require further investigation by high quality study. In patients undergoing colorectal surgery, emphasis should be placed on early feeding as soon as can be appropriately initiated to support the return of gastrointestinal motility.

Summary: Colorectal cancer, the third most common cancer type, can be diagnosed early through an automated computer-aided detection framework based on deep learning. This framework utilizes histological slide images for predictions and achieves high accuracy and F1-Score through feature extraction and dimensionality reduction using Particle Swarm Optimization. The proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on a colorectal cancer histology dataset, providing visual explanations and justifying the use of CAD framework in screening.

Summary: The CONFIRM study aimed to compare the mortality outcomes of colorectal cancer among individuals who underwent colonoscopy with those who took annual fecal immunochemical tests (FIT). The study found a growing preference for FIT among individuals declining colonoscopy, particularly in the western US.

Summary: Based on large-scale randomized control trials and model studies, biennial FIT/gFOBT, single and 5-yearly FS, and 10-yearly colonoscopy screenings significantly reduce CRC-specific mortality. The effectiveness of screening increases at younger screening initiation ages and higher adherences.

Summary: This study compares the clinical characteristics and survival differences between early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) patients and late-onset colorectal cancer (LOCRC) patients, and identifies the risk factors for cancer-specific mortality (CSM) in LOCRC patients. A mortality risk assessment nomogram is constructed. The results show differences in the distribution of multiple clinical features between EOCRC and LOCRC patients. Age, tumor size, histological type, grading, stage, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, neural invasion, and CEA level are independent factors influencing the CSM rate in LOCRC patients. The nomogram has acceptable predictive performance for LOCRC patients.

Summary: The study found that regardless of differences in frailty screening and treatment approaches, outcomes for frailty patients were less favorable in all studies. Compared with the non-frail group, the frail group had higher mortality, more serious complications, more postoperative blood transfusions and delirium, and more support outside the home.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a common cancer globally and is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Current screening methods for colorectal cancer have limitations and many people are not compliant with screening recommendations. Novel screening tests based on advances in molecular biology, genetics, and epigenetics, as well as sequencing technologies and computational analytic methods, have been developed to improve early detection of colorectal cancer.

Summary: Limited endoscopy capacity is a main barrier to extending screening for colorectal cancer to individuals over 70 years old, due to the high positivity rate in this age group. A study assessing CRC incidence and mortality among 70-year-olds with negative fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) found that those with previous negative FIT results had lower 10-year cumulative rates of cancer incidence and mortality compared to those who had not participated in screening or had positive FIT results. Therefore, optimizing resources by targeting screening efforts towards individuals aged 70 to 74 with no previous negative FIT results may be a more efficient approach.

Summary: This meta-analysis study evaluated the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in reducing the incidence, hospitalization, and mortality from COVID-19. The results showed that vaccination with BNT162b2 mRNA, mRNA-1273, and ChAdOx1 was associated with a favorable effectiveness against SARS-CoV2 in different populations, particularly in the second dose.

Summary: This study investigated the risk of developing HCC in patients with cirrhosis and found that the incidence rate of HCC was lower than previously reported. The risk of HCC varied depending on the etiology, with higher risk in patients with cured HCV and lower risk in those with NAFLD. Current smoking and overweight/obesity were also associated with increased HCC risk.

Summary: This study found that treatment delays are prevalent in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and are associated with worse survival. Treatment delays varied across different treatment modalities and were more likely to occur in Black patients and those living in high poverty neighborhoods. Summary: This study conducted an overall and individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis of transarterial radioembolization (TARE) and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that TARE had a significantly longer time to progression (TTP) compared to TACE, but there was no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between the two modalities. The limitations of the current data include inconsistent length of follow-up and response criteria. Therefore, prospective studies comparing these treatments are needed.

The results showed that a high level of individual clinician authority was associated with key facilitators for effective use of the DOAC Dashboard, while a lack of individual authority was often associated with barriers to effective use.
