Summary: Homotaurine is a potential therapeutic compound for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and has anti-inflammatory properties. This study suggests that supplementation of homotaurine in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) increases the levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and IL-33, while decreasing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-18. The elevation of IL-10 and IL-33 is associated with improved episodic memory in treated patients.

Summary: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) leads to visual impairment and blindness due to dysfunction and inflammation of Mu'' ller cells. Interleukin-33 (IL-33) plays a crucial immunomodulatory role in DR, and its absence promotes inflammation, neurodegeneration, and decreased neurotrophin secretion.

Summary: Dry eye disease (DED) is a common ophthalmic disease affecting millions of people worldwide. Recent studies have shown that inflammation plays a central role in DED, and IL-20 is a proinflammatory cytokine involved in various inflammatory diseases. This study demonstrated the role of IL-20 in DED and presented a potential therapeutic option using the anti-IL-20 monoclonal antibody (mAb) 7E.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of IL-14 alpha as a biomarker for dry eye in primary Sjogren's syndrome and its correlation with BAFF in different patient groups. The results indicated that IL-14 alpha and BAFF could serve as critical cytokine biomarkers for the stratification of dry eye in pSS, providing insights for non-invasive diagnosis methods.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to establish a Beagle dog model of dry eye disease (DED). The DED models were induced by surgical removal of orbital lacrimal glands and entire resection of third eyelids in the left eyes of six Beagle dogs. The results showed that signs of DED appeared within one month after surgery and remained stable over time. The surgery-induced Beagle dog DED model is easily accessible and stable over a relatively long time.

Summary: IL-33 is a cytokine that modulates inflammation and immune responses, primarily associated with the development of Th2 immunological responses. It has been shown to be elevated in various autoimmune disorders, suggesting a role in inducing autoimmunity and inflammatory damage. The IL-33/ST2 axis holds promising potential as a therapeutic target for autoimmune disease treatment.

Summary: Upper blepharoplasty may lead to increased tear inflammatory cytokines release and tear film instability, contributing to the development of postoperative dry eye. Dry eye patients showed significantly shortened tear film stability at 1 month postoperatively, but symptoms were relieved after 6 months. Preexisting dry eye is a higher risk factor for worse and persistent ocular surface damage after upper blepharoplasty.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to describe tear concentrations of IL-1 beta, Il-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17A, IFN gamma and TNF alpha in subjects with dry eye disease (DED) and their correlation with symptoms and signs. The results showed that IL-10, IL-17A, and IFN gamma were highly correlated with each other, but weakly correlated with certain DED signs. Further studies are needed to confirm and establish the pathological and clinical relevance of tear cytokines in DED.

Summary: IL-33 is a pleiotropic cytokine acting on various cell types, including ILC2s, to promote inflammation and regulate homeostasis. It has been implicated in a wide range of conditions, including asthma, allergy, and reproductive pathologies. This article summarizes the role of IL-33 and ILC2s in the female reproductive tract and healthy pregnancy, and explores their potential as therapeutic targets in reproductive disorders.
