In this paper, we report the effect of thermal treatment at different temperatures (523, 623, and 723 K) on the magnetic properties of an amorphous powder with composition Fe72.5Si12.5B15 obtained by gas atomization. Differential scanning calorimetry curves indicate that a significant structural rearrangement takes place during annealing before crystallization. As expected, the intrinsic coercivity decreases with the annealing temperature, being the most significant drop from 3.26 to 0.44 Oe for the powder with a particle size < 20 mu m, non-annealed, and annealed at 723 K, respectively. An analysis of the effect of annealing on the anisotropy field distribution obtained directly from the magnetization curve is presented for both the non-annealed and the annealed sample with the lowest value of coercive field. The probability density function of the anisotropy field exhibits a lower applied field value at the maximum and is better fit by a Gaussian distribution after the heat treatment, which is a sign of better amorphicity after structural relaxation.

Summary: We assessed the prevalence of active HCV infection among people living with HIV (PLWH) in Spain in 2019 and compared the results with those of four similar studies performed during 2015-2018. The prevalence of active HCV infection in PLWH was 2.2% in 2019, which was 90% lower than in 2015.

Development of Co-Rich Microwires with Graded Magnetic Anisotropy

Valentina Zhukova, Paula Corte-Leon, Juan Maria Blanco, Mihail Ipatov, Alvaro Gonzalez, Arcady Zhukov

Summary: In this paper, a gradual change in the hysteresis loop of Co-rich glass-coated microwire stress-annealed at variable temperature is observed. Such microwires annealed with a temperature gradient also present a variable squareness ratio and magnetic anisotropy field along the microwire's length. The obtained graded anisotropy has been attributed to a gradual modification of the domain structure along the microwire originated by a counterbalance between shape, magnetoelastic, and induced magnetic anisotropies. Accordingly, we propose a rather simple route to design graded magnetic anisotropy in a magnetic microwire.

Summary: The 2022 global mpox outbreak has been unprecedented, with over 67,000 cases reported in non-endemic countries. Although mortality is rare, hospital admission is relatively common. This study found that males, white ethnicity, and HIV-infected patients were more likely to be hospitalized, and severe pain and secondary bacterial infection were the main reasons for admission.

PrEP for women in Europe: a systematic literature review

Naomi Fitzgerald, Holly Coltart, Lourdes Dominguez, Kate Flanagan, Yvonne Gilleece

Summary: This systematic review reveals a lack of literature on PrEP for cis and transgender women in Europe, which also indicates a lack of PrEP provision for women in this region. Barriers to PrEP uptake are complex and rooted in institutional and societal stigma, which must be addressed at policy level. Further research into the use of PrEP in cis, pregnant, breastfeeding, and transgender women is essential if we are to stop HIV transmission by 2030.

Effect of Annealing on the Magnetic Properties of Co2MnSi-Based Heusler Alloy Glass-Coated Microwires

Mohamed Salaheldeen, Mihail Ipatov, Paula Corte-Leon, Valentina Zhukova, Arcady Zhukov

Summary: In this study, we investigated the effect of annealing on the magnetic behavior of Co2MnSi-based Heusler microwires. The annealing temperature was set at 1023 K for 2 hours, and annealing above this temperature would damage the glass coating. Both annealed and as-prepared samples showed strong in-plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and the coercivity of the annealed sample was four times higher than that of the as-prepared sample. Interestingly, both samples exhibited stable coercivity behavior with temperature. The annealed sample displayed sharp irreversible magnetic behavior at a blocking temperature of 220 K, while the as-prepared sample had a blocking temperature of 150 K. The unusual and irreversible magnetic behavior was attributed to the internal mechanical stress induced during fabrication and the stress relaxation caused by annealing.

Preparation and Magneto-Structural Investigation of High-Ordered (L21 Structure) Co2MnGe Microwires

Summary: The Taylor-Ulitovsky technique was used to prepare nanocrystalline Co2MnGe Heusler alloy glass-coated microwires with specific magneto-structural characteristics. XRD analysis revealed a defined nanocrystalline structure with unique phases. The magnetic properties were influenced by internal stresses and showed anomalous behavior compared to other glass-coated microwires. These microwires have potential applications due to their ferromagnetic behavior and high order.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of conventional annealing and Joule heating on the magnetic domain wall dynamics and giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect in Fe-rich microwires with different geometries. The results show that magnetic softness, GMI effect, and domain wall dynamics can be substantially improved by appropriate annealing.

Anomalous Magnetic Anisotropy Behaviour in Co-Rich and Fe-Rich Glass-Coated Microwires under Applied Stress

Alfonso Garcia-Gomez, Juan Maria Blanco, Paula Corte-Leon, Mihail Ipatov, Alvaro Gonzalez, Julian Gonzalez, Arcady Zhukov, Valentina Zhukova

Summary: This article studies the effect of annealing temperature and applied stress on the magnetic properties of Fe71.80B13.27Si11.02Nb2.99Ni0.92 and Co65.34Si12.00B10.20Cr8.48Fe3.90Mo0.08 microwires. An anomalous behavior of the coercive field is observed while applying stress, indicating nontrivial changes in the microwire magnetic anisotropy. The effect of applied stimuli on the magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction constant in both microwires is also discussed.

Unveiling the Magnetic and Structural Properties of (X2YZ; X = Co and Ni, Y = Fe and Mn, and Z = Si) Full-Heusler Alloy Microwires with Fixed Geometrical Parameters

Mohamed Salaheldeen, Valentina Zhukova, Mihail Ipatov, Arcady Zhukov

Summary: In this study, Ni2FeSi-, Co2FeSi-, and Co2MnSi-based full-Heusler alloy glass-coated microwires with the same geometric parameters were prepared and their crystal structure and magnetic properties were analyzed. The results showed that the change of chemical composition significantly affected the lattice cell parameters, average grain size, and magnetic behavior of the samples. The study also revealed the tunability of magnetic properties in X(2)YZ MWs by controlling their structure at fixed geometric parameters. Based on these findings, X(2)YZ MWs have potential applications in sensing.

The Magnetostriction of Amorphous Magnetic Microwires: The Role of the Local Atomic Environment and Internal Stresses Relaxation

Valentina Zhukova, Alfonso Garcia-Gomez, Alvaro Gonzalez, Margarita Churyukanova, Sergey Kaloshkin, Paula Corte-Leon, Mihail Ipatov, Jesus Olivera, Arcady Zhukov

Summary: In this study, we investigated the magnetostriction coefficients and Curie temperature of Fe47Ni27Si11B13C2 and Co67Fe3.9Ni1.5B11.5Si14.5Mo1.6 glass-coated microwires under different annealing conditions. The results showed that the magnetostriction coefficients are linearly dependent on the applied stress, with opposite responses observed for different materials. Additionally, annealing had a similar effect on both the magnetostriction coefficients and Curie temperature of the studied microwires.
