Summary: This study investigates the impact of cooling rate on the soft magnetic properties of amorphous ribbons. It is found that ribbons prepared at a lower cooling rate exhibit better soft magnetic properties. By improving the surface morphology and residual stress of the ribbons, the magnetic structure and properties can be enhanced, making them suitable for applications in electric devices.

Summary: To avoid annealing embrittlement and annealing-induced resistivity drop, the Fe85P11C2B2 amorphous alloy was treated by pulse current (PC) and rolling. The PC processing enhanced atom mobility, resulting in the formation of alpha-Fe nanocrystals and release of internal stress, increasing saturation magnetization (Ms) and reducing coercivity (Hc). Rolling after PC treatment improved sample resistivity (ρ). The synergy of PC + rolling treatment increased Ms from 1.54 T to 1.64 T, enhanced resistivity from 177.1 μΩ·cm to 192.0 μΩ·cm, and decreased Hc from 6.4 A/m to 5.6 A/m. The treated sample maintained good bending ductility.

Summary: The influence of primary alpha-Fe precipitation on thermal and magnetic properties was investigated by producing Fe76.5-xCu1NbxSi13.5B9 (x=0, 1, 2 and 3) amorphous/nanocrystalline ribbons through melt-spinning. It was found that rapid quenching and heat treatment had similar effects on alpha-Fe precipitation. By optimizing components and heat treatment, magnetic properties of the ribbons could be significantly improved.

Summary: The effect of heat treatment near the crystallization onset on Co-based amorphous microwires was investigated for micromagnetic structure, magnetostriction, and magnetoimpedance. The hysteresis loops of the microwires changed shape as the annealing temperature approached the crystallization temperature, producing unique magnetic properties. The formation of an easy anisotropy direction was confirmed, and the origin of this anisotropy was found to be different from that induced by current annealing below the Curie temperature.

Summary: The oxidation behavior and soft magnetic properties of industrially prepared Fe80Co3Si3B10P1C3 amorphous cores were investigated under heat treatment in air. Results indicate that heat treatment in air can improve the soft magnetic properties of the cores, resulting in higher permeability and maximum saturation magnetic induction. The improvement is attributed to the formation of a Co-rich layer between the oxide layer and the amorphous substrate. The core loss exhibits different trends depending on the annealing time and conditions.

Summary: In this study, Fe83-xB10P4C2Cu1Vx (x = 0, 0.5, 1, 2) amorphous alloys were designed and prepared to enhance the soft magnetic properties. The effects of V addition on thermal stability, soft magnetic properties, and microstructure after annealing were investigated. The results showed that V effectively improved the thermal stability and the annealing process resulted in a composite structure that further enhanced the saturation magnetization and reduced the coercivity.

Summary: The magnetostriction coefficient and its stress dependence are investigated in Co- and Fe-Ni-based glass-coated microwires. It is found that the hysteresis loops and magnetostriction coefficients are mostly determined by the chemical composition of the metallic nucleus. The stress dependence of the magnetostriction coefficient is linear for both types of microwires, but with opposite trends for Co-rich and Fe-Ni-rich microwires. The annealing process also affects the magnetostriction coefficient.

Summary: This paper investigates a new heat treatment method to inhibit the brittleness caused by annealing in Fe-based amorphous alloys. By using a self-designed continuous rapid annealing equipment, the amorphous precursors were rapidly annealed at 773K for 0.3 s, resulting in the formation of a-Fe phase with a size of 2 to 5 nm. The ribbon sample exhibits high saturation magnetization and low coercivity, as well as good bending ductility.

Summary: Soft and flexible magnetic robots made from magnetically-active elastomers have gained attention due to their large deformability and remote actuation capabilities. These properties make them appealing for minimally invasive surgeries, allowing navigation to previously inaccessible areas. However, functionalizing such magnetic devices has been a challenge. To address this, we introduce a proof-of-concept variable stiffness robot controlled by remote magnetic actuation, capable of grasping objects of different sizes. We demonstrate a controlled and reversible high deformation coiling action induced by a transient magnetic field and a nitinol backbone. Experimental demonstrations show a maximum coiling deformation angle of 400 degrees.

Summary: In this paper, a gradual change in the hysteresis loop of Co-rich glass-coated microwire stress-annealed at variable temperature is observed. Such microwires annealed with a temperature gradient also present a variable squareness ratio and magnetic anisotropy field along the microwire's length. The obtained graded anisotropy has been attributed to a gradual modification of the domain structure along the microwire originated by a counterbalance between shape, magnetoelastic, and induced magnetic anisotropies. Accordingly, we propose a rather simple route to design graded magnetic anisotropy in a magnetic microwire.

Summary: The 2022 global mpox outbreak has been unprecedented, with over 67,000 cases reported in non-endemic countries. Although mortality is rare, hospital admission is relatively common. This study found that males, white ethnicity, and HIV-infected patients were more likely to be hospitalized, and severe pain and secondary bacterial infection were the main reasons for admission.

Summary: This systematic review reveals a lack of literature on PrEP for cis and transgender women in Europe, which also indicates a lack of PrEP provision for women in this region. Barriers to PrEP uptake are complex and rooted in institutional and societal stigma, which must be addressed at policy level. Further research into the use of PrEP in cis, pregnant, breastfeeding, and transgender women is essential if we are to stop HIV transmission by 2030.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the effect of annealing on the magnetic behavior of Co2MnSi-based Heusler microwires. The annealing temperature was set at 1023 K for 2 hours, and annealing above this temperature would damage the glass coating. Both annealed and as-prepared samples showed strong in-plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and the coercivity of the annealed sample was four times higher than that of the as-prepared sample. Interestingly, both samples exhibited stable coercivity behavior with temperature. The annealed sample displayed sharp irreversible magnetic behavior at a blocking temperature of 220 K, while the as-prepared sample had a blocking temperature of 150 K. The unusual and irreversible magnetic behavior was attributed to the internal mechanical stress induced during fabrication and the stress relaxation caused by annealing.

XRD analysis revealed a defined nanocrystalline structure with unique phases. The magnetic properties were influenced by internal stresses and showed anomalous behavior compared to other glass-coated microwires. Summary: In this study, Ni2FeSi-, Co2FeSi-, and Co2MnSi-based full-Heusler alloy glass-coated microwires with the same geometric parameters were prepared and their crystal structure and magnetic properties were analyzed. The results showed that the change of chemical composition significantly affected the lattice cell parameters, average grain size, and magnetic behavior of the samples. The study also revealed the tunability of magnetic properties in X(2)YZ MWs by controlling their structure at fixed geometric parameters. Based on these findings, X(2)YZ MWs have potential applications in sensing.
