Summary: A family of transition metal complexes based on meso-aryl-2-aza-21-carbaporphyrin (N-confused porphyrin, NCP) derivatives were synthesized and characterized. The chirality of these complexes was demonstrated by enantiomeric separation and analysis. Preliminary catalytic study showed the activity of iridium(III) ortho-metallated complexes in the N-heterocyclization of primary amines with diols.

Summary: A Fe/S cluster catalyzed radical cascade cyclization of alkylthio-functionalized o-anilide-embedded N,S-1,6-enynes to afford thieno[3,4-b]indoles is developed. The cycloisomerization strategy offers a straightforward route to 4H-thieno[3,4-b]indoles through the 1,2-sulfur transfer and Csp(3)-S bond cleavage, with the formation of both an indole ring and a fused thiophene ring in one pot. In this cascade, the element sulfur acts as the oxidant to induce the single electron transfer (SET) process.

Summary: The chemical stability of N-(aminobenzyl) phthalimide radical anion in aprotic organic media at room temperature is studied in this work. The redox couples 1/1(center dot) and its imine precursor 2/2(center dot) can indirectly catalyze the reduction of benzyl or allyl halides, yielding reactive alkyl radicals and subsequent conversion to 2-benzylsuccinate diethyl ester. Spin density calculations reveal dimeric association and π-π stacking interactions of 1(center dot-) and 2(center dot-). The redox mediators presented in this work show good functional group selectivity, tunable redox potential, and easy preparation with high yields from readily available commercial materials.

Summary: A CoS2-x mixed with Fe2+ system was developed for the sustained release of singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) through ultrasonic treatment, effectively degrading various organic pollutants. This system can efficiently degrade organic pollutants for up to 30 days, surpassing the current CuPx system by a significant margin.

Summary: This paper focuses on the synthetic methods of metal spinel oxides (MSOs) and their applications in adsorption catalysis, magnetic materials, electrodes, and sensors. The modifications and applications of AB2O4 (M > 2, B = Al, Fe, Co, and Mn) MSOs are compared. The advantages and disadvantages of MSO synthetic methods are briefly introduced and discussed. The future development trends and application extensions for MSO syntheses are also discussed.

Summary: The nucleophilic addition of a cyanide anion to a carbonyl group serves as the basis for several cyanide-catalyzed organic reactions, with examples including the benzoin condensation and the Michael-Stetter reaction. Apart from the fundamental reactions, variants like the silyl-benzoin coupling and cyanide-catalyzed heterocyclic syntheses are also covered.

Summary: Esters can be reduced to ethers and alcohols through C-O bond cleavage by hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis pathways on Bronsted acidic faujasite (M-FAU) supported metal nanoparticles. The rates and selectivities of each pathway are influenced by the metal identity (M=Co, Ni, Cu, Ru, Rh, Pd, and Pt). Pt-FAU catalyst exhibits propyl acetate consumption rates up to 100 times higher than other M-FAU catalysts and achieves a 34% selectivity for ethyl propyl ether. The reduction of esters appears to involve a bifunctional mechanism, with stepwise addition of H* atoms to the carbonyl to form hemiacetals on the metal sites, followed by hemiacetal diffusion to Bronsted acid sites for dehydration to ethers or decomposition to alcohol and aldehyde. The reduction rates of propyl acetate seem to be determined by H* addition to the carbonyl and C-O cleavage of hemiacetal.

Summary: Optically active organosilanes have been demonstrated to be versatile chiral reagents in synthetic chemistry. Monohydrosilanes, which bear a Si-H bond, are especially unique due to their facile transformations through stereospecific bond-formation reactions. In addition, they have also been used as chiral reagents for alcohol resolution, chiral auxiliaries, mechanistic probes, and potential optoelectronic materials.

Summary: A method for the annulation of 2-nitrophenols with aryl isothiocyanates is described. The reactions were carried out using an iron(iii) acetylacetonate catalyst, elemental sulfur, NaOH as a base, and DMSO as a solvent. Derivatives of 2-aminobenzoxazoles with nitro, cyano, acetyl, sulfone, secondary amine, and pyrrolyl groups were successfully obtained.

Summary: The study reveals that N. gonorrhoeae combats nutritional immunity by hijacking zinc and other metals directly from host metal-binding proteins. The surface receptor TdfH can also interact with copper and manganese but not with cobalt. Limiting essential nutrients like zinc is an important defense mechanism of the human body against pathogens.

Summary: The interactions between transition metals and sulfur have been extensively studied for their potential applications in catalysis and energy storage, as well as their relevance in biological and geological systems. Metal complexes with sulfur-containing ligands can undergo redox transformations involving both sulfur and the metal. Sulfur can also form polysulfur motifs by catenating with other sulfur centers. This article describes the synthesis and structures of notable examples of metal complexes with sulfur-containing ligands (sulfido, polysulfido, and polysulfanido), highlighting aspects of sulfur-centered redox, spectroscopic and structural considerations, and future research opportunities.

Summary: The last decades have witnessed the rapid growth of applications of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) in various chemistry fields. Due to their unique properties, NHCs have become a powerful tool in coordination chemistry, particularly in the synthesis of stable metal-ligand frameworks with main group metals and transition metals. This article provides an overview of the use of five-membered monodentate C-2-symmetric N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) as ligands for transition-metal complexes and highlights their most relevant applications in asymmetric catalysis.
