Summary: In this study, density functional theory was used to investigate the structures, absorption spectra, charge transfer, and nonlinear optical properties of monomers, dimers, and trimers based on PDIB. The introduction of phenyl substituents resulted in decreased energy gaps, redshifted absorption peaks, enhanced intramolecular charge transfer, and increased intermolecular electron coupling and intermolecular charge transfer. Furthermore, increasing the number of layers led to a decrease in the average nonlinear optical response.

Summary: In this study, the influence of Cr doping on the nonlinear properties of hydrothermally prepared ZnO nanoparticles was investigated. The successful Cr doping was confirmed by observing peak shift and decrease in crystallite size in XRD analysis. The presence of oxygen vacancies and the existence of divalent oxidation states of zinc and trivalent state of chromium were confirmed by XPS spectrum. The Zn0.96Cr0.04O nanoparticles showed a combined effect of saturable absorption and reverse saturation absorption with an increase in nonlinear absorption coefficient and third-order NLO susceptibility on increasing Cr3+ doping concentration.

Summary: The optical and structural properties of methylamine lead bromide (MAPbBr3) single crystal (SC) were investigated and the optical and dielectric parameters were studied using Kramers-Kronig (KK) equations. The optical phonons of MAPbBr3 SC were found to be associated with the optical interaction with lattices in the visible region. The third-order nonlinear coefficients of MAPbBr3 were measured using the Z-scan method, showing a high third-order nonlinear response and self-defocusing phenomena.

Summary: Thin films of V2O5:Co nanocomposite were deposited by thermal deposition method. Structural analyses showed all samples had a single orthorhombic phase of alpha-V2O5:Co. Additionally, doping V2O5 with Co caused a slight shift in XRD peak positions, indicating an increase in interatomic distances. The nanoparticle size of V2-xCoxO5 (x = 0-0.2) increased with Co doping, and the optical bandgap of the samples widened with increasing x values. The nonlinear optical properties of the thin films were investigated and showed an increase in nonlinear responses with increasing laser power intensity. The samples exhibited both self-defocusing and saturable absorption effects.

Summary: This study screened 12 stable Craig-Mobius aromatic organometallics, named carbolong complexes, with high third-order nonlinear optics responses through density functional theory (DFT). Extension of the conjugated plane and introduction of typical aromatic ligands were found to enhance the third-order NLO response effectively. This research provides a new approach to improve third-order NLO materials design using Craig-Mobius aromatic complexes.

Summary: This work reports the preparation of three deep eutectic solvents (DES) and their measurement of third-order optical nonlinearities. The DES, based on choline chloride as the hydrogen bond acceptor and urea, malonic acid, and phenylpropionic acid as the hydrogen bond donor, exhibited similar nonlinear refractive indices (n(2)) to ionic liquids and traditional polar protic organic solvents. The theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT) agreed with the experimental results, and the presence of aromatic cloud was found to contribute to higher n(2) values in DES.
