Summary: The Lewis acid-base adducts of general formula X(nad)<-NC5H4-C5H4N->B(nad)X [nad = 1,8-O2C10H6, X = C6H5 (2c), 3,4,5-F3-C6H2 (2d)] were synthesized and characterized. H-shaped adduct 2d formed stable host-guest complexes with aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. Crystallographic analysis revealed pi...pi interactions between the adduct and solvents, resulting in 1:1 and 1:2 host-guest complexes. The complexes demonstrated high thermal stability. The ability of 1,8-dihydroxy naphthalene to self-assemble through dative covalent N -> B bonds was demonstrated.

Summary: Crystals of TETROL consistently formed 1:1 host/guest complexes when grown from different cycloalkanones. The thermal stability of these complexes followed the order 6-ONE > 7-ONE > 8-ONE > 5-ONE. The preference for 6-ONE was observed in binary guest/guest competition experiments and these complexes had higher densities.

Summary: To develop a method for selectively separating hard-to-separate organic molecules, the control of guest selectivity was examined using external factors such as solvents, temperature, and additives. The inclusion of monosubstituted phenol isomers with p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene crystals showed selective switching between different isomers. The mechanism of guest selectivity was determined by X-ray crystal structure analysis, thermal stabilities, and formation rates of inclusion crystals.

Summary: This study aims to lower the isothermalization temperature (T-i) of poly(pentylene 4,4’-bibenzoate) (BB-5) and enhance the processability of poly(pentylene 4,4’-terphenyldicarboxylate) (T-5) compounds. Six fluorinated BB-5 (F-BB-5) compounds with T-i values at least 35°C lower than that of BB-5 are synthesized. Fluorinated T-5 (F-T-5) compounds exhibit isotropic phases before thermal decompositions, unlike T-5. Moreover, F-BB-5 and F-T-5 form unexpected crystalline and higher-order smectic phases, expanding the possibilities of low-molecular-weight liquid crystals.

Summary: The study found significantly higher concentrations of PAHs and phthalate esters in maize and wheat samples from endemic villages in the Balkans. It warns of the potential risks of prolonged coexposure to these environmental contaminants through dietary intake, which may lead to greater toxicity and accelerated development of Balkan endemic nephropathy (BEN).

Summary: Developing a general method for obtaining optically pure fully substituted carbon molecules with various fluorinated groups is important but challenging. In this study, we demonstrate that by using secondary OH as a kinetic resolution auxiliary group, previously unavailable fluorinated fully substituted carbon molecules can be obtained with excellent enantioselectivities, providing an alternative solution to the limitations of known methods.

Summary: Reliable methods for determining vapor pressures of organic materials are becoming increasingly important for predicting the behavior and fate of chemicals in the environment. This study analyzes a method that relates gas-liquid chromatography retention data to vapor pressures of selected organic compounds. Additionally, an alternative multireference correlation gas chromatographic method is reviewed to reveal uncertainties in routine application of the method.

Summary: This study examined the dynamics of three guests (benzene, naphthalene, and xylene) included in isostructural cavities. The results showed that benzene is highly mobile with fast in-plane jumps, while naphthalene experiences 180-degree jumps at high temperatures. Xylene can only undergo 120-degree in-plane jumps at temperatures close to decomposition due to the methyl groups acting as effective stoppers.

Summary: Nanoconfinement is a recent strategy to improve solubility and dissolution rate of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with poor biopharmaceutical properties. Combining cocrystals of racemic praziquantel (PZQ) with glutaric acid (PZQ-GLU) and confining them in mesoporous silica material leads to increased solubility and dissolution rate. The confined PZQ-GLU phase shows transient supersaturation behavior in simulated gastric fluid, providing a dissolution advantage over pristine PZQ.

Summary: The assembly of conjugated organic molecules from solution to solid-state is crucial for determining the characteristics of thin films in organic electronics and photovoltaics. Various intermolecular interactions result in distinct aggregate structures, which greatly affect charge transport in solid-state. The assembly of neat materials in blend systems, including phase separation and crystallization, governs the morphology of blend films. This review focuses on molecular assembly processes in conjugated polymers and small molecule acceptors, as well as their impact on thin film morphology and optoelectronic properties. It also discusses the fundamentals of phase transition in blend systems relevant to organic solar cells and how assembly and processing conditions affect blend morphology and device performance.

Summary: A photoactive cocrystal was obtained through mechanochemistry by coexisting (B)O-H...N hydrogen bonds and B <- N coordination. Specifically, the grinding of a boronic acid and an alkene using a ball mill and liquid-assisted grinding resulted in mixtures of hydrogen-bonded and coordinated complexes similar to those obtained in solution. The alkenes in the hydrogen-bonded assembly undergo a [2+2] photodimerization reaction, reflecting the self-assembly processes. Our findings demonstrate that noncovalent bonds under mechanochemical conditions can contribute to the formation of functional solids, with the weaker hydrogen bonding interactions dominating in this case.
