Summary: Cadmium is an environmental pollutant that poses a health risk. This study investigated the toxic effects of cadmium on the uterus and the protective role of metallothionein. The results showed that cadmium accumulates in the uterus and disrupts the balance of essential elements.

Summary: This study assessed the toxicological characteristics of fermented Morinda officinalis (FMO) and found that FMO did not show any genotoxicity or acute toxicity at the tested dose. Furthermore, no adverse effects were observed in the subchronic toxicity study, indicating that FMO can be safely used as functional food and medicine.

Summary: The oral anthrafuran drug exhibited reversible and dose-dependent hepatic and renal toxicity at low doses, as well as hematological and gastrointestinal toxicity at high doses, without limiting cardio- and myelotoxicity. The favorable toxicological properties observed during the subchronic study make oral anthrafuran a promising candidate for further research compared to clinical anthracyclines, oral idarubicin, or parenteral doxorubicin.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the subchronic toxicity of deltamethrin in laying chickens. The results showed that deltamethrin treatment had significant effects on blood biochemical parameters and tumor-related gene expression in laying chickens. Furthermore, deltamethrin treatment induced liver and intestinal damage.

Summary: Ciguatoxins are marine compounds produced by dinoflagellates that can cause food poisoning. This study investigated the effects of ciguatoxin-related compounds on mice and highlighted the need to reevaluate their in vivo activity. It also emphasized the importance of using standardized procedures and certified reference materials to determine the levels of these environmental contaminants in food.

Summary: In this study, the metabolic effects of Cyadox were evaluated using comprehensive methods. The results showed dose-dependent alterations in the metabolism of urine, kidney, plasma, and liver. Gene expressions in the liver were also affected by high dose Cyadox treatment, with differentially expressed genes involved in xenobiotic metabolism, lipid metabolism, energy metabolism, nucleic acid metabolism, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress.

Summary: In this study, Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to subchronic oral administration of Okadaic acid (OA). The results showed that OA disrupted colonic mucosal integrity, induced colitis, and might contribute to chronic diarrhea by affecting water and ion transport. Additionally, subchronic OA exposure possibly promoted the restitution process of gut barrier or induced tumor promoter activity in rat colon.

Summary: In this study, it was found that DAT had low acute toxicity in rats and no toxicity at a subchronic dose of 125 mg/kg/day. However, higher doses of 250 mg/kg/day and 500 mg/kg/day showed toxic effects on food intake, liver, kidney, and lung. DAT significantly altered the intestinal microflora of rats, with 125 mg/kg/day having the most significant impact on diversity.

Summary: Aristolochic acid (AA) has been found to cause serious kidney damage in Tianfu broilers by disrupting the redox balance to induce oxidative stress and promote apoptosis of renal cells. The study provides suggestions for the clinical application of traditional Chinese medicine containing AA in the poultry industry.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of acute and subchronic toxicity of waterborne thallium to rainbow trout. The results showed no significant effects on ionoregulatory enzymes and oxidative stress endpoints. The data suggest that ionoregulatory perturbance is a more likely mechanism of thallium toxicity in rainbow trout, particularly at elevated environmental concentrations.

Summary: The present study aimed to evaluate the toxic potential of lacquer seed oil (LSO). Results from acute toxicity study showed no mortality or toxic changes in rats treated with LSO. In the subchronic toxicity study, LSO did not induce significant toxicological changes in clinical observations, body weight, organ weight, biochemical or hematological parameters. Histopathological analysis revealed slight hepatic steatosis and inflammatory infiltration in rats treated with 5000 mg/kg/day of LSO, but this observation was not confirmed by hepatic biochemical analysis.
