Summary: This study reports a novel dual-functional photocatalyst, TiO2@HYZ, with spatially separated catalytic and adsorption sites. It shows excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of gaseous toluene under UV irradiation in humid air. The optimized TiO2@HYZ-2 achieves 96.6% toluene removal and 87.4% mineralization within 120 min. It also exhibits superior durability, maintaining stable performance over repeated toluene degradation processes. The enhanced activity and anti-deactivation property can be attributed to the synergistic effect between HYZ and TiO2 in the catalyst structure.

Summary: The study established the influence of the crystalline phase and agglomeration degree of TiO2 nanoparticles on photocatalytic hydroxyl radical formation and bacterial inactivation in TiO2/SiO2 composite coatings. A relationship between hydroxyl radicals' formation and charge carrier transfer mechanism between defect levels in SiO2 and TiO2 embedded nanoparticles was established through a simple spectroscopic method. This correlation complements the lack of mechanisms behind the photocatalytic activity in TiO2/SiO2 composites.

Summary: A tunable band structure W-doped TiO2 photocatalyst was designed for the photocatalytic oxidation of methane to C-1 oxygenates using O-2 at low temperature. The W-doping improved the photocatalytic performance, achieving a liquid oxygenates productivity of 12.2 mmol g(-1) and a selectivity of 99.4%. Additionally, the selectivity of COx was effectively decreased from 21.2% to 0.6%. W-doping not only enhanced light absorption but also promoted the separation of photo-generated carriers, improving methane conversion.

Summary: High photon conversion efficiencies and low-cost materials are crucial for large scale photocatalytic solutions. One approach to improve efficiencies is through transient absorption spectroscopy to understand charge carrier dynamics. Another approach to lower costs is by mixing photocatalysts with cheaper additives while maintaining activity. A new model based on fractal kinetics has been developed to fit transient absorption decays and provide insights into photocatalytic activities of mixtures.

The influence of these photocatalysts on the survivability and enzyme activity of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis under UV-A and artificial solar light was examined. The TiO2-1%-S-100 photocatalysts were capable of achieving complete inactivation of the bacteria under artificial solar light irradiation in less than 1 hour. The study also discusses the impacts of sugars on the photocatalytic activity and disinfection performance.

Summary: UV treatments are commonly used for pollutant removal in industrial water. Introducing a suitable photocatalyst can enhance energy efficiency by producing reactive oxygen species to degrade pollutants. TiO2 is a common photocatalyst for UV illumination, often created through Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) of titanium substrates. High surface roughness and area on PEO samples enhance photocatalytic activity by disrupting fluid flow and increasing interaction between pollutants and the catalytic surface.

Summary: This study focused on the semihydrogenation of acetylene in an ethylene-rich stream using two alloyed Pt catalysts PtCu and PtCo. The PtCu catalyst showed higher activity and ethylene yield compared to PtCo due to its higher unoccupied Pt d-orbital density. This indicates that alloying Pt with Cu is more promising for industrial relevant SHA catalyst.

Summary: The use of machine learning to predict the performance of specific adsorbents in phosphate adsorption shows great promise in saving time and revealing underlying mechanisms. However, the small size of the dataset and insufficient detailed information limits the model training process and the accuracy of results. To address this, the study employs a fuzzing strategy that replaces detailed numeric information with descriptive text messages on the physiochemical properties of adsorbents. This strategy allows the recovery of discarded samples with limited information, leading to accurate prediction of adsorption amount, capacity, and kinetics. The study also finds that phosphate uptake by adsorbents is generally through physisorption, with some involvement of chemisorption. The framework established in this study provides a practical approach for quickly predicting phosphate adsorption performance in urgent scenarios, using easily accessible information.
