Summary: In this study, two methods of surfactant modification were employed to remove diclofenac sodium (DFS) from aqueous solution using surfactant-modified clinoptilolite zeolite. The synergistic effects of pure cationic surfactant (CTAC) and mixed surfactants of CTAC + Triton-X100 (TX100) were determined and an optimum ratio was identified. The surface of clinoptilolite was modified with the mixed surfactants for the adsorption of DFS. Characterization of the modified zeolites and analysis of the adsorption data were conducted using various techniques and models.

Summary: Risk assessment of toxicants is often based on experiments with single substances, but in natural ecosystems toxicity typically results from exposure to mixtures of toxicants. A QSAR-based approach can effectively assess the joint effects in binary mixtures, with the proposed method showing good validity in predicting toxicity values.

Summary: There are growing concerns about the indirect effects of aquatic contaminants on biological interactions. This study investigates the influence of sodium octyl sulfate (SOS) on the growth, morphology, and feeding rates of green algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) and three species of zooplankton (Daphnia galeata, Bosmina longirostris, and Bosmina fatalis). The results show that SOS induces colony formation in the algae and reduces feeding rates in Daphnia and Bosmina fatalis when they consume colonial algae. The sensitivity to prey coloniality varies among the zooplankton species. These findings provide insights into the impact of chemically interfered colony formation on population dynamics and community structures.

Summary: Despite the challenges in formulating tablets due to their dependence on powder composition and compaction process details, powder compaction simulations using the finite element method (FEM) and density-dependent Drucker-Prager Cap model can aid in the design process. An automated parameterisation workflow was developed and validated using experimental powder mixtures. The results showed that FEM simulations accurately reproduced experimental compaction curves, and a mixing methodology was developed to estimate parameters of mixtures using only pure-component parameters as input.

Summary: The study proposed a hybrid method of combining dictionary and machine learning approaches to automatically recognize phenotype concepts in unstructured biomedical text, achieving improved performance compared to previous methods. By using concepts and synonyms from HPO to construct a dictionary and create a distantly supervised training dataset for machine learning, along with training a cutting-edge deep learning model, the method successfully classified candidate phrases into concept labels. Experiments on HPO and MEDIC datasets demonstrated competitive performance without requiring manually annotated training data.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different organic carbon sources on the growth and bio-oil accumulation of an oleaginous microalga. Glucose and glycerol supported higher growth rates and lipid productivities compared to other carbon sources. The mixture of glucose and glycerol at optimal concentrations resulted in the highest lipid productivity.

Summary: The equilibrium cluster fluid state of a symmetric binary mixture of particles with short-ranged attractive and long-ranged repulsive interactions was studied through Monte Carlo simulations. The clustering behavior of the system was found to be controlled by the cross-interaction between the two types of particles. Different levels of cross-attraction led to different clustering behaviors, from independent giant clusters to composite clusters.

Summary: The Mpemba effect is observed in a molecular binary mixture in contact with a thermal reservoir, where initial temperature differences can lead to the emergence of this effect. The interaction between the gaseous particles of the mixture and the thermal reservoir is modeled through a viscous drag force and a stochastic Langevin-like term. The results are theoretically analyzed and validated through computer simulations, showing agreement between theory and simulations.

Summary: Thermogravimetry (TG) is a simple method for rapid analysis of soil properties, but its link with microbiological soil properties has not been systematically tested. This study aimed to search and validate the relationships between thermal mass losses (TML) and various soil properties. Results showed significant correlations between TML and basic soil properties, and equations developed from these correlations were successfully validated for prediction, mainly for arable soils.

Summary: Acid leachate from steel sludge was used to prepare photo-catalytically active composites based on GO/ZnO-L and g-C3N4/ZnO-L. The composites exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency in the degradation of azo dye compared to the model composites. This is attributed to the modified electronic structure and the emergence of new quantum levels caused by the presence of other metal oxides in ZnO-L, leading to a more efficient separation of photo-generated charge carriers.

Summary: This study demonstrates the comparison of two different semiconductor materials, TiO2 and melem/g-C3N4 composites, modified with Ag nanoparticles as photocatalysts for degradation of acid orange 7 (AO7) dye. A new synthesis route for Ag NPs was proposed, and the best photocatalytic performances were achieved for TiO2 and melem/g-C3N4 materials modified with a very low Ag content. The results suggest the potential of these materials for the degradation of organic contaminants in wastewater treatment.

Summary: In this study, steel sludge was used to prepare the ZnOL-GO composite, which exhibited excellent photocatalytic efficiency against Acid Orange 7 compared to the model composite. The presence of other metal oxides in ZnOL in conjunction with GO significantly increased the photocatalytic efficiency of the composite material, likely due to modification of the electronic structure and more efficient separation of charge carriers. The results demonstrate new possibilities in processing and utilizing metallurgical waste.
